Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

ESPN shows us once again why they're considered the leader in sports by trying to answer the questions we've all been asking about the future of the Phoenix Suns. Questions like.. "Fact or Fiction: Aaron Brooks is the PG of the future." and "Should Marcin Gortat or Robin Lopez start at center?".

Wow what ground breaking stuff.

ESPN thinks we should trade Nash hands down. Makes sure to sneak it’s punches in about the team and owner from time to time. Believe we should start Gortat, well all except one person who says we should trade him as well and go full nuclear blow the team up mode apparently, AArron Brooks is not the answer to all of our problems going forward (NO WAY!?) And apparently we will never make the playoffs again till around 2015, because this team just has a track record of not making the playoffs.

I actually thought that most of the opinions expressed in the article

are fairly commensurate with the opinions of the average basketball fan that isn’t a member of the Bright Side of the Sun.

Just because most people here think the Suns should keep Nash and will be back in the playoffs next year doesn’t make it the alpha and omega of the situation.

I actually made my peace with Nash being gone at the Suns home season finale. I figure between the factors of rebuilding and an extended strike, that odds are he’ll be gone.

Missing the playoffs for 3 years doesn’t sound unrealistic, especially if a strike kills next year. The Suns have three players collecting social security which comprise the total of the teams all-star appearances. As presently constructed, it is entirely possible they might not have a single player on their roster that EVER makes another all-star appearance!

I just wish the front office of the Suns was more in line with the roundtable. The Suns screwed up. Maybe it wasn’t their fault (not everyone likes to accept responsibility for their actions), but they went from a period of highly entertaining basketball to crap in no time flat. Nash is getting old and the Suns don’t appear equipped to reload quick enough to give him the pieces to compete again. Eventually Nash won’t be a premiere point guard anymore. It could be next year.

If the Suns would like the mean people to stop picking on them I would suggest they pull out of their tailspin and give them something positive to discuss.

I wasn't necessarily commenting on the answers to the questions, as much as I was the actual questions themselves

The answers were pretty much in line with what I expected from them. Especially answering that we should trade Nash without taking into account that we’d most likely be getting 25 cents on the dollar for him. Exactly what I expect from the national media and non-Suns fans.

The questions were more baffling though. They couldn’t come up with anything better than “Fact or Fiction: Aaron Brooks is the PG of the future.” and “Should Marcin Gortat or Robin Lopez start at center?” These are 2 questions that I’d guess 90% of Suns fans would agree on.

Re-sign BAMF.

Exactly

Was expecting to eventually read “Fact or Fiction: Should the Phoenix Suns Gorilla go on a diet?”

According to the rumors, yes.

The T-Wolves had been trying to get Nash since the all-star break, but to no avail. When they got the 2nd pick they offered that for Nash, but the Suns kept saying they weren’t trading him. That leads me to believe that they then offered it for Gortat and that’s where all the rumors involving him came from.

However, I also believe that the Suns tried to push for the 2nd pick when they saw that they were willing to give it up and probably gave an offer that didn’t involve Nash and Gortat. Either way, neither side came to an agreement.

Minnesota doesn’t have a good FO and they have a history of doing a terrible job of keeping things from the media. I can’t say that any of this is true with 100% surety because they’re rumors, but I really believe they wanted Nash and that our FO didn’t want to trade him.

After all, I couldn’t imagine our FO calling teams about trading Nash. They’ve said themselves that they’d only listen to offers and trade him only if he asked for it.

Don't trade Dudley!

Yea, I agree.

I know a lot of the fans here really think that it’s best to keep Nash. Yet, I don’t think they’re looking at this in a long-term point of view and when they do look at it that way, all they say is, “Well, who cares if we lose Nash for nothing as we’ll only be able to trade him for nothing anyway.”

What they don’t realize is that something is better than nothing. It won’t be fair value, but we might be able to get a good piece back like someone with all-star potential. I think most GM’s realize that Nash can go strong for at least another 2 years. Just look at Stockton. That guy played till he was 42 and was a borderline all-star PG until the end. Nash at the age of 37 is better then Stockton was when he was 37. The only thing they’d have to worry about is getting him to commit to a contract which I don’t believe would be that big of an issue.

With that said, it isn’t reasonable to think that trading Nash is a sin, but this is a Suns site, so I guess I just have to deal with it.

I’m totally for trading Nash, but if we plan on keeping him for another 2-3 years then we better not settle on mediocrity. Honestly, I’d rather we rebuild then do that.
