I don't think anybody will give us picks for anybody we want to get rid of

I imagine we’ll try to keep Dudley, Frye and Gortat. Everybody else is up for grabs, but I can’t see anybody giving picks for Nash, Hill, Chilldress, Warrick….maybe Lopez if someone is really high on him.

I’m just going to keep watching Andre Drummond videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXB6vc5Z_A4

Anthony Davis would be nice

We have needs at pretty much every position….looks like there are some studs at every spot in this draft. Mostly bigs, but great wings and PGs too.

we need a good wing scorer and another big to go along with Gortat.

an athletic one would be really nice, nowadays, NBA players not relying solely on basketball talent anymore, its more on athleticism, how high you jump and how quick you are.

I disagree

I reckon it is an over-rated draft. None of the top picks screams Franchise player.

by MMotherwell on Jan 13, 2012 9:24 PM MST up reply actions

I kind of agree.

There are a lot of good players, but there aren’t any Blake Griffin’s. Harrison Barnes is a nice player, but little more than that. Drummond is mostly unrealized potential. Davis is really thin and hasn’t shown what he’s capable of because the team is so stacked. There could be really good players found all the way at the bottom of the lottery though.

That's what people said about this past draft

I think this draft will have some stars.

Or I hope it will…

But will they be the first 5?

Some drafts, the stars aren’t obvious – think Shawn Marion. This draft, I reckon 2 or 3 of the top 5 are busts or Marvin Williams quality borderline starters. This is a draft to have 2 first rounders in more than top 5.

Barnes is the sort of player

That is a solid starter, and ends up with a max contract that is over paying him. And I think he’ll go top 5.

I’m okay with him leaving. He’s not a max player(as NYK is finding out), but it’s obvious that we had absolutely no contingency plan in case he left.

Trading LB for Hedo was dumb, but I guess that move eventually got us Gortat….

The Dragon trade was absolutely terrible. I said it then and I’ll still say it now.

Our docs said that Amare wouldn't hold up over the life of the contract

And we didn’t know about the amnesty clause back then, so we gave him a more-than-fair offer.

Knicks overpaid, and now a lot of their fans seem to be regretting it(just going by what I read on their SBNation blog and the RealGM Knicks board.)

Now, would I rather have Amare on his max deal over Chilldress and Warrick? Of course. But before I knew that was the backup plan, I was okay with the move.

by suns68 on Jan 13, 2012 9:59 PM MST up reply actions

Fair point

But I question whether or not he really wanted to stay here anyways. IMO, he always wanted to be the alpha in a glitzy city like NYK. Even if Sarver matched the NYK contract, I think Amare still would have left.

But yeah…let’s say we did keep Amare, and then we traded LB for Hedo(since LB asked out b/c Dragic took his minutes…oh the ironing), and we kept Louuuuuuu:

Nash/Dragic
Richardson/Dudley
Hill/Hedo
Amare/Amundson
Lopez/Frye

That certainly looks like a much, much better lineup than the one we’re sporting now, but we know that Lopez was injured for pretty much all of last season, so Frye would have been forced to start at C, and we would have had no backup C. I think that rotation(minus Lopez) could have done some damage for sure.

Only way I'll feel better is if we beat the hated Spurs on Sunday.

I picked up a BEAT SA shirt from the clearance rack at USAC and wore it all over Texas a couple weeks ago.

Nobody objected. Several indicated agreement.

I don’t think they can stand the Spurs either.

Understandable...

There are two other Texas teams.

Yeah after a loss to L.A.

I need a win over the Spurs to even things out a little bit.

wonder why we stopped going to Gortat in the 4th

he took (and made) just one shot
he was hot in the 3rd

Feed the cutter!!!

This.

I kept yelling this at my TV. Why the fuck were we not just POUNDING it inside to Gortat. It seemed like no one understood that he’s been on fire! Just fucking overuse the pick and roll with him and force it in! They were over the team foul limit.

Ineffective guards

They just don’t seem to be able to make the correct pass quickly.

by MMotherwell on Jan 13, 2012 9:36 PM MST up reply actions

It is our way...

We’re trying to confuse the other team by not passing to our best player.

We really fell in love with the 3 tonight

Much of that is probably because we didn’t have Nash but guys were just chucking 3s all game long.

Some positives

But depressing at the same time. Bad rebounding and lack of defense when it counted.
But, considering no Nash and no Hill, it could’ve been worse.

Price was really impressive. I like his effort and game. He could be a keeper.
Brown didn’t drive me insane tonight with stupidity. So, that is a plus. He also played some good defense, and took better shots today. So- that is good.
Frye continues to impress me with improvements this season. Definitely want to keep him around. Now he’s the consistant one over ‘Keef.
Gortat is awesome. Can’t wait till the rest of the team catches up to his game.
Dudz played pretty darn well. Love the guy.

Telfair is not a keeper. I just don’t see it with him. He makes bad decisions and can’t seem to shoot. I get colder on him every game.
Redd will make it back. He’ll have up games and low games. But I have faith in him,

Overall, they need to rebound better and defend the perimeter better. But they are moving the ball pretty well, even without nash and hill. They have promise. Or they could absolutely stink. It remains to be seen. But we have some very good pieces to work with.

Am I the only one...

that feels like Brown is just 1/10th of an added bonus over Pietrus?

I kind of liked Pietrus better

Because of his hilarious screaming

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

I don't notice that on grainy feeds.

Me too

Plus, he could defend and he had that enforcer kind of attitude. The guy was just too wild for us. We’re not the kind of team that jacks up threes like we were many, many, many years go.

Turns out, Brown is just as wild, but that’s it…

Don't trade Dudley!

by Beavis 25 on Jan 13, 2012 9:45 PM MST up reply actions

Dudley shooting better is the big plus

6-10 and 2-3 from 3. Maybe now he’ll go up with confidence. Frye always shoots with confidence, even when ice cold, but Dudz seems to hesitate when cold more. If Dudz starts to hit threes, we are golden.

by MMotherwell on Jan 13, 2012 9:39 PM MST up reply actions

Well, at least we'd be nickel

I thought Dudz was really strong tonight. And his shot is falling. With Frye and Dudz hitting shots, it will help- but we’ll still lose games without the other fundamentals they are currently lacking- that and a guy who will consistantly get us to the line at the end of games.

all true...but..

they need the intangibles to start to get wins. In this league, many teams have a lot of good pieces, but somehow find a way to lose every night. Tonight for instance, with Nash and hill out you would have thought it would have been a major struggle offensively…instead they had one of their best offensive nights all season, but managed to lose because they played terribly on D.

Good night all..

Don’t let this loss get you down…We have some positives to look at and I think the Suns will figure this ou in time to make the playoffst…

It’ll look better tommorrow…

Frustrating.

I feel like heading to the gym tonight to sulk and show them how it’s done. People will come by and see me shooting hoops and yelling to myself.

No need to drown anything tonight.
