you could feel that we had no push back defensively in the 2nd quarter, whatsoever. and that they could get anything they wanted, penetration, post ups, 3’s whatever, but this is absolutely nuts…
Ronnie Price looks like he's playing pretty good "D"
but with Deron’s 26 points and 12 assists you’d never know it.
Why D is so hard to measure
Sometimes, guys just make shots.

welcome to another loss...
this is a frustrating one, as you would never have expected that we could get this much offence with Hill and Nash out….there is no way we can continue to score this well, so we will need to hold them to like 15, when I feel like they are on pace for another 35.

they have multiple guys going they have shot 60% since the 1st quarter, hit an enormous number of 3’s., can score with any guy on the floor.

It is the scheme
I have no idea if it is a GOOD scheme, but it is the scheme we play. we have a faux-zone, and seem to have everyone cover everyone else. Seems complicated and not terribly effective to me.

Looks good for 3 quarters
Then seems to leave great shooters (like Morrow) wide open late. Seems like a scheme destined to lead to 4th quarter breakdowns.

I disagree
I reckon it is an over-rated draft. None of the top picks screams Franchise player.
I kind of agree.
There are a lot of good players, but there aren’t any Blake Griffin’s. Harrison Barnes is a nice player, but little more than that. Drummond is mostly unrealized potential. Davis is really thin and hasn’t shown what he’s capable of because the team is so stacked. There could be really good players found all the way at the bottom of the lottery though.

But will they be the first 5?
Some drafts, the stars aren’t obvious – think Shawn Marion. This draft, I reckon 2 or 3 of the top 5 are busts or Marvin Williams quality borderline starters. This is a draft to have 2 first rounders in more than top 5.

Barnes is the sort of player
That is a solid starter, and ends up with a max contract that is over paying him. And I think he’ll go top 5.
Apparently some still think he's in the discussion for #1.
Give me Davis and Drummond before him, and Kidd-Gilchrist, while a different player, is building an argument. I just don’t understand where the hype around him came from.

Well....once Amare left it was kind of all downhill from there
I’m okay with him leaving. He’s not a max player(as NYK is finding out), but it’s obvious that we had absolutely no contingency plan in case he left.
Trading LB for Hedo was dumb, but I guess that move eventually got us Gortat….

If the plan was to waste Nash's renmanining years as a Sun then they've succeeded.
If their plan was to replace Amar’e and contend, then they’ve failed. It’s already too late. Time to move on and build for the future. Just want to get this season over with and move on to next off-season.

It makes me wonder whether Sarver was just stupid or there was something going on between him and Amar'e.
Sort of like the whole Joe Johnson thing.
When Sarver said he was going to give Amare a final offer, he didn’t seem very confident or hopeful that he would take it.
Don't trade Dudley!
Pretty much
It was a pretty reasonable offer when I saw it, but you could just tell that Sarver knew Amar’e wasn’t going to take it.
Don't trade Dudley!
Our docs said that Amare wouldn't hold up over the life of the contract
And we didn’t know about the amnesty clause back then, so we gave him a more-than-fair offer.
Knicks overpaid, and now a lot of their fans seem to be regretting it(just going by what I read on their SBNation blog and the RealGM Knicks board.)
Now, would I rather have Amare on his max deal over Chilldress and Warrick? Of course. But before I knew that was the backup plan, I was okay with the move.
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. I didn't really care about the end of his contract.
We’d have had two, maybe three championship shots even if he did break down in years four and five.
Sarv and crew seemed to take the why suck later when we can do it now route.
I'm Michael Beasley's imaginary friend.
Fair point
But I question whether or not he really wanted to stay here anyways. IMO, he always wanted to be the alpha in a glitzy city like NYK. Even if Sarver matched the NYK contract, I think Amare still would have left.
But yeah…let’s say we did keep Amare, and then we traded LB for Hedo(since LB asked out b/c Dragic took his minutes…oh the ironing), and we kept Louuuuuuu:
Nash/Dragic
Richardson/Dudley
Hill/Hedo
Amare/Amundson
Lopez/Frye
That certainly looks like a much, much better lineup than the one we’re sporting now, but we know that Lopez was injured for pretty much all of last season, so Frye would have been forced to start at C, and we would have had no backup C. I think that rotation(minus Lopez) could have done some damage for sure.
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
The Gortat trade still would have been available, but it would have cost us J-Rich of course
Still,
Nash/Dragic
VC/Dudley
Hill/Pietrus
Amar’e/Amundson
Gortat/Frye
That had the potential to win a title
Don't trade Dudley!
The Dragic trade still makes me furious
I loved that guy. That was personal. He was mini-Steve Nash. You don’t fucking trade a guy who 1-ups Jamaal Tinsley after he tried to be all fancy.
Never lowercase the SUNS in Phoenix SUNS!
mini steve nash he was not
but he was a good backup PG, and we could really use one right now.

Sure he was
Dude idolized Nash since he was a kid. He wanted to BE Steve. I thought it was cute story. Young basketball player gets to play with his hero.

But his game isn't anywhere close to Steve's.

He just wasn't in the right situation here anymore.
He likely would have continued to struggle had he stuck around.

I hope Brooks comes back
We could use him

Cardinals, Suns, D-backs for life!
Only way I'll feel better is if we beat the hated Spurs on Sunday.
I picked up a BEAT SA shirt from the clearance rack at USAC and wore it all over Texas a couple weeks ago.
Nobody objected. Several indicated agreement.
I don’t think they can stand the Spurs either.

Yeah after a loss to L.A.
I need a win over the Spurs to even things out a little bit.

wonder why we stopped going to Gortat in the 4th
he took (and made) just one shot
he was hot in the 3rd

This.
I kept yelling this at my TV. Why the fuck were we not just POUNDING it inside to Gortat. It seemed like no one understood that he’s been on fire! Just fucking overuse the pick and roll with him and force it in! They were over the team foul limit.

Ineffective guards
They just don’t seem to be able to make the correct pass quickly.
It is our way...
We’re trying to confuse the other team by not passing to our best player.

We really fell in love with the 3 tonight
Much of that is probably because we didn’t have Nash but guys were just chucking 3s all game long.

Some positives
But depressing at the same time. Bad rebounding and lack of defense when it counted.
But, considering no Nash and no Hill, it could’ve been worse.
Price was really impressive. I like his effort and game. He could be a keeper.
Brown didn’t drive me insane tonight with stupidity. So, that is a plus. He also played some good defense, and took better shots today. So- that is good.
Frye continues to impress me with improvements this season. Definitely want to keep him around. Now he’s the consistant one over ‘Keef.
Gortat is awesome. Can’t wait till the rest of the team catches up to his game.
Dudz played pretty darn well. Love the guy.
Telfair is not a keeper. I just don’t see it with him. He makes bad decisions and can’t seem to shoot. I get colder on him every game.
Redd will make it back. He’ll have up games and low games. But I have faith in him,
Overall, they need to rebound better and defend the perimeter better. But they are moving the ball pretty well, even without nash and hill. They have promise. Or they could absolutely stink. It remains to be seen. But we have some very good pieces to work with.
Grant Hill for prez.
Am I the only one...
that feels like Brown is just 1/10th of an added bonus over Pietrus?
Never lowercase the SUNS in Phoenix SUNS!
I kind of liked Pietrus better
Because of his hilarious screaming

Me too
Plus, he could defend and he had that enforcer kind of attitude. The guy was just too wild for us. We’re not the kind of team that jacks up threes like we were many, many, many years go.
Turns out, Brown is just as wild, but that’s it…
Don't trade Dudley!
Dudley shooting better is the big plus
6-10 and 2-3 from 3. Maybe now he’ll go up with confidence. Frye always shoots with confidence, even when ice cold, but Dudz seems to hesitate when cold more. If Dudz starts to hit threes, we are golden.
Well, at least we'd be nickel
I thought Dudz was really strong tonight. And his shot is falling. With Frye and Dudz hitting shots, it will help- but we’ll still lose games without the other fundamentals they are currently lacking- that and a guy who will consistantly get us to the line at the end of games.
Grant Hill for prez.

all true...but..
they need the intangibles to start to get wins. In this league, many teams have a lot of good pieces, but somehow find a way to lose every night. Tonight for instance, with Nash and hill out you would have thought it would have been a major struggle offensively…instead they had one of their best offensive nights all season, but managed to lose because they played terribly on D.
also I wish we tried PnR's for NJ to switch and the Suns could explot a mismatch
something they didn’t try to do the entire game…
Feed the cutter!!!

Good night all..
Don’t let this loss get you down…We have some positives to look at and I think the Suns will figure this ou in time to make the playoffst…
It’ll look better tommorrow…
STAT may be gone but the Suns will rise....! BTW, If positivity is a crime, I plead guilty by reason of T-Bird...!

don't even say it Ray
Frustrating.
I feel like heading to the gym tonight to sulk and show them how it’s done. People will come by and see me shooting hoops and yelling to myself.

Creighton got a win so I'm in a much better mood than I would be otherwise.
No need to drown anything tonight.
