Memphis Grizzlies at Phoenix Suns Game Thread

Memphis Grizzlies at Phoenix Suns, Jan 28, 2012 7:00 PM MST

It looks like Alvin Gentry is going back to the original starting line-up. Let's see if these guys can back up their talk (Dudley and Frye)

I find that "not thinking" usually takes care of that dilemma.

Just because Steve Nash has that "dirty hipster" look doesn't mean he's in need of a shower. Steve Nash bathes in the tears of his victims on a nightly basis.

We're just not very good.

So let’s go out there and do whatever it is we’re gonna try to do. And see how that turns out. I unfortunately won’t be here to join you lovely people in the festivities.

I’m just dropping by to add my name to the roll call :)

Anyways, have fun guys and gals! The game threads are usually more fun than watching the actual game anyway.

The WNBA is all about the game of basketball. No overblown hype, no despicable personalities, no outrageous amounts of money, no mugging halftime analysts, and no poisonous animosities. Just the finesse and effort of basketball. If that isn't interesting to people, then people just aren't interested in basketball.

Do you get Suns games?

I live in NM as well, and get FSAZ, but there is always re-runs of other shows on instead of Suns games. I get everything else I used to get in Phoenix; Dbacks, Coyotes, etc, but had to buy LP to watch the Suns.

Brown

Should be starting not Dud.

Also Morris was fine starting, just couldn’t do anything offensively case Gentry ran 0 sets for him.

Funn stats about the rook

While starting he averaged 4.2 shot attempts per game and averaged 17.4 minutes per game.

Can’t succeed when giving no chance to succeed.

More fun stuff:

Suns are 3-1 whe Keif shoots 10+ time in a game. averaged 7.75 boards, averaged 29.25 minutes per game, and finally 17.25 pts per game with 2.25 3pters /game

Good job starting Keif, Bad job not playing him minutes and utilizing him….

WaveOcean, i’ve been wathcing alot of college games almost every night while waiting for the suns game to start. I watched the last two huskies games observing posible suns draft prospects tony wroten and terrence ross.

Wroten is a very rare guard and the tyreke evans comparisons seem spot on. He can really score and pass but doesn’t seem to have much of a jumpshot right now. I’d compare ross to former laker guard eddie jones. He’s not quite the slasher that jones was, but his buld, athleticism and jumpshot are pretty similiar.

I also watched north carolina and north carolina state. All the tarheels prospects looked pretty good and even marshall is starting to show improvement with his jumpshot but his passing was very “kidd like” in that game. He might be worth trading for later in the draft after our lottery selection.

Henson looked phenomenal with his post-defense as usual, but the guy that surprised me the most and really looked impressive was tyler zeller. He basically showed he can do everything in the post that lopez can’t. His footwork and post positioning was excellent and he really knew how to score easily on the interior.

He also showed good hands, a soft jumper, an ability to get up and down the floor and finish. Best of all was his rebounding. He had ten rebounds at the half and finished the game with 21 points and 17 boards while keeping a calm and controlled demeanor the whole game.

Zeller might be a good candidate to replace lopez if he’s eventually traded.

The coaches tell him to do it.

The Suns’ offense depends on spacing, so you need guys in the corners. Chill has shown he’s capable of knocking down set shots at a decent enough rate i the past. He just hasn’t taken a ton with PHX, and hasn’t found his rhythm.

It's not a great fit for him because he plays more like Grant Hill if I had to make a comparison.

He can post up, slash, and defend. Just not quite as well as 39 year old Grant Hill.

Gasol is a Dirty Dirty Player

He stuck his knee into Hans in what shold have been a flagrant foul on the last play, the shot should have been disallowed (they missed it anyway) Nash should have goten shots and the Suns the ball back. Gasol also pulled Dudley down on that last play, lucky the ref’s called that on. Dudz is redeemed tonite, need to see more aggressive paly.

Kobe is still very good but...

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bryanko01.html – Kobe is taking the most shots per 36 since 2005-06, and he is taking too many long 2s, shooting too much of the ball in general and turning it over the most since 2004-05, and is shooting his lowest TS% (and second lowest eFG%) of his career, due in large part to taking a lot of threes and missing 3/4s of them.

He’s still very good, but compared to himself, not one of his best years.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/36102/david-thorpe-on-laker-o-woes – Pretty much nails it.

It seems clear that it’s not the system that has to change, but rather Bryant’s shot selection, for Gasol to get more of the kind of touches he prefers.

Kobe is still very good, but he’s a touch off his best, at the minimum.

Nash, Bell, Hill, Garnett, and Stoudemire

was the roster we wanted. If Marion didn’t screw up our plans, we would’ve had that stacked roster.

It was going to be a 3-way trade with

Minny, Phoenix and Atlanta
Minny got 1-4 pick from Atlanta
Phoenix got Garnett
and Atlanta got Amare.
But we wanted to do a 3-way trade with Boston, Minny and Phoenix with
Minny getting, Al Jefferson, and tons of players
Boston getting Marion
and Phoenix getting Garnett

Marion + Garnett

I could see it working. We’d be a little small, but we’d rebound, defend and run really well.

Nash, KG, and Amare would've torn apart other teams' defenses.

But Garnett + Marion > Amare + Shaq.

We got neither, I’d have liked either!

Remember after we made Gentry coach?

Back 2 Back 140+ point blowouts against the Clippers. Too bad Amare got injured. If we had let that ride, it would’ve been fun.

Imagine if we had traded Marion for Shaq though

Wow what a front court, then trading Diaw and Bell for JRich
C – Shaq
PF – Garnett
SF – Hill
SG – JRich
PG – Nash

Would have won a championship no doubt, but everyone would be terribly old by now.

Kieff is weird at the moment

Great line 10 pts, 9 rebs, but he fouled 5 times in 20 minutes, was blocked twice and his 3 point shot looked iffy.

Kieff makes a LOT of good plays, and gets no calls. His energy probably works better with the new rotation.
