Looks like possibly the next Steve Nash? Check
Young? Check
Unrestricted FA? Check
Franchise Cashcow? Check
He would get the Suns some attention, all assuming he can keep up starter quality play.
Knicks do not hold bird rights? Check, the Knicks can offer him their MLE at most.
He is currently 2nd in PER in the league and averages 25/8/4 in the last 3. Lets say his production drops to 12/6 for the rest of the year what would you offer?

Everyone needs to calm down
In April of 1991, Kevin Johnson suffered an injury that would keep him out of the next several games. At the time, the only capable ball handler was rookie Negele Knight.
Thrust into the starting lineup with no backup, Knight took the court against the Golden State Warriors. In his first start of his career, Knight played over 40 minutes and racked up 22 points and a whopping 19 assists. Knight continued to surprise over the next four games:
@ LAL 25 pts, 9 ast
GSW 27 & 10
DAL 17 & 11
SAS 27 & 8
In that stretch, Knight made "believers" out of Suns fans.
He then went on to greatness, playing 4 more years in the league, then killing it at City Square Athletic Club in downtown Phoenix, getting schooled by relatively unknown smallish point guards that never played in the NBA, College, High School or even the local Y.
Knight strung 5 games together that made him look like a future all-star point guard. Then he fell to earth with a thump.
I am not suggesting that Lin is Knight. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Let's slow down on this guy
it’s only been 3 games seriously…
well
3 games is kind of legit, that 3 game stretch is better than any string of 3 games any Suns player has put together in the last 2 years with the exception of a few instances of Nash.

I like Lin
and you’re right he’s putting up awesome numbers i just dont think he is 25 ppg and 8 apg but he’s a good starter i would like for the suns to get him he could learn alot under nash i dont think nash is going to leave after this year
True...
I AM on this Lin-wagon right now, but am tempered in a big picture way. I just like that a guy who was underestimated throughout his basketball career (From high school to now) is having what anyone who has played basketball dreams of: THIS week of his! Topping off with 38 against the Lakers!
Now that teams will be scouting him and paying more attention to him, it is up to Lin to counter all the adjustments that will be made for him. 3 games and some of the things we have seen on ESPN NBA.com and YouTube can NOT be faked, but it is a player’s ability to adjust that makes them great (and memorable, not in an afterthought or: “What happened to this guy?” type way).
I wish him the best, I am happy for the guy and the week he is having, I am even happier that he is a humble and gracious person!
Oh, and if he shows us that he IS the real deal…I hope NYK can not afford to pay him more than the Suns can…Or ANY other team can…Or lure him to learn a bit more about the point guard position from Steve Nash!

Good post
The reason I am not 100% sold on him is teams will start game planning for him and he may struggle like a lot of players seem to do. Not saying he can’t be good but I have to wait until teams get his tendencies down and plan to stop him. I hope he does well because his story is awesome and I would love for the Suns to get him if he does indeed continue on this path.

Isaih Thomas: 3 wins, 74 pts, 19 assists
Magic Johnson: 2-1, 60 pts, 16 asts
John Stockton: 1-2, 24 pts, 29 asts
And NYC has just been waiting to explode since STAT and ‘Melo have arrived.
But since the StudaMelo combo hasn’t delivered, the NY media wants to anoint someone, and it is going (lady) gaga all over this kid—
By all accounts, a good kid in an amazing situation— BUT the next Steve Nash?
Let’s wait a few more games. What’s gonna happen when ball-cloggin’ Melo gets back? Can Amar’e settle for being the #3 guy, after refusing to be the #2 guy in PHX?

Utah is a bad defensve team
23rd in pts/game and 20th in FG%. Lin’s stats are still impressive. The controversy reminds of the debate after Kevin Love first broke out last season. 12-6 for Lin sounds a lot more reasonable. I’m really curious if Lin-Carmelo will work together.
Wait and see. If he looks legit, try to bring him on board. And if he’s overrated and in need of time to become consistent, he’d play behind Nash anyway.

tbh alot of ppl wont agree but id trade melo. he will never win a ring. Amare can play off the ball though and with a good pg hell return to form.
I would do a 3 team trade with orlando and another team.
NYK gets a SF to replace melo and some role players to add depth from orl and team x
ORL gets a superstar under contract in Melo
Team X gets D howard
This would give NYK the money theyll need to resign Lin next year because right now they dont have the money to keep him
Lin/davis
Fields
team x SF
Amare/ jefferies
Chandler

Trade?
No one has com up with a trade for Lin?
i'm glad some one has brought lin up
I still want to see how he does against better competitive teams like Orlando, Blazers,Thunder, Spurs, Heat,Bulls. Thats ‘s when will see what he’s really made of because his last three games were against wizards, nets, and jazz. So i’m gonna wait but what’s better is the situation with Nash. I remember when yahoo sports ran an article about him possibly leaving suns and going with D’antoni and STAT in New York.
So with a possible lineup of Lin and Shumpert and Nash, thats three point guards. Even though that looks good on paper, that causes a little disruption in the rotation, the only thing I can think of is if they move Shumpert to the 2 position, but he’s more of a point than he is a shooting guard.
So this is better for The Suns in hopes of keeping Nash, If we do loose Nash and lets say Lin has at least 20ppg 8.0ast through out the season then the Suns should definitley move in, BUT THAT’S ONLY IF WE LOOSE NASH.

Lin averaged 25 in 38mpg on 58% shooting and not 20ppg in 46 minutes. And no DJ Mbenga can’t do that.
Marcin Gortat can’t do that, he had 1 25 point game in the last 2 years. Lin has averaged that 3 straight games.

And apparently I'm not alone:
It became obvious to me tonight why Lin works for the Knicks, and it also became obvious that D’Antoni’s system is only part of it. Iman Shumpert, in fact, is living proof that it takes more than just a good system to play well. Shumpert is a terrible, terrible point guard (although he can apparently score in bunches when his coach stops caring about him not sticking to the playbook) He’s Randy Foye’s lack of anticipation combined with Jonny Flynn’s attitude.

he’ll play 2-guard. the guy can flat out score and play defense. he should be a great player for the knicks for years to come.
i totally disagree with the attitude thing. this guy plays hard all of the time, and has been one of NY’s best playmakers.
i really don’t know why he is attacking shumpert, maybe because he lit up the wolves yesterday? lol
Geez, I knew someone would make a fanpost about him...

Even when Kobe played single coverage on Lin, it wasn't enough.
Lin has that Steve Nash sorta hesitation move that he uses to free himself from his defender. He’s got the speed to just blow by people, which is why Hubie Brown kept praising his basketball IQ. He knows how to play really well.

True..
I was going to make a point after a comment above comparing Lin’s performance to Dragic’s against the Spurs (in that Dragic’s was a “fluke” while Lin’s is legitimate).
I have heard from many sports figures that attitude makes all the difference when talent levels are equal…While I was on the Dragic wagon back in the day, it was always clear to see he had more of a “deer caught in headlights” look than a “killer instinct” look. Lin on the other hand has shown more moxy and swag while he plays.
Also, Lin has demonstrated his tough, never-quit attitude (at least from a video clip from an interview with a journalist following Lin off of SI.com) by leading his HS team to a championship game, being overlooked at the college level AND the NBA level, being cut from 2 teams and STILL coming to play (I mean, the guy graduated from Harvard, I’m sure he could have thrown away his NBA dream and not had to worry about making a life for himself).
Regardless, I hope Lin proves all his disbelievers wrong and all of his supporters right. Teams will be scouting him and finding any weaknesses in his game now…It’s up to Lin to adjust!

yea i think thats what gives him the edge
that “i graduated from harvard so even if i leave the game ill mostly likely still be rich so therefore i play the game not for money but for the love because i know i dont need it but i love it just as much” factor
combine that with his swag and killer instinct and you have a man with solid talent but the championship mentality.
like you said dragic has amazing talent too but no where near the sharp edge this kid carries.

If you didn't believe on Lin before the Lakers game
You should now. Even if you put Kobe on him tonight he would have gotten at least 15 points. The part that impresses me the most is not how many he scores…but his basketball IQ. He’s like between a pass first and score first PG. I’d love for him to be on this team. We suck on offense so he could take over while also getting everyone else involved. An average of 15 points and 6 assists is enough for me. Either Melo, Amare, or Lin will be out of New York by next season. Those three cannot play together and succeed.
Twitter: @FredLegittt
He'll probably get Wesley Matthews money
5 years, 34 million from someone. I do love his personality and work ethic. During that halftime interview he said he was going to watch film. In this world of egos, this is so refreshing.
Unfortunately, when Amare and Carmelo come back he won’t get 23 shots a game. He’ll be lucky to get 10 which will of course be sad but that’s what they wanted when they got Melo.

well, Everything! You're just like LeBron--guilty of everything!
Did you see this LeBron quote about Perk criticizing his tweet?
You could be watching cartoons with your kids and you don’t like it, you say, ‘Blame it on LeBron.’ If you go to the grocery store and they don’t have the milk that you like, you just say, ’It’s LeBron’s fault.’
That’s you, EBR. “Outta milk? Must be East Bay Ray’s fault.”
Have you ever noticed that you can’t spell L-EBR-on without EBR? Interesting, no? And you never see them together, right? Just a coincidence? I beg to differ…

I watched him play for the Rockets in preseason and was impressed, but I never expected he do anything like this. I love how aggressive he is, he was 10-13 from the line tonight.
He won’t be wearing purple and orange anytime soon however but I’m sure some team will throw some money at him, his agent must be rubbing his hands right now.
We got the money and the same offensive system
I don’t think it’s unrealistic.
Voted most likely to say "I told you so"
This is another example
Of wanting a player, but doubting he’ll come here. There’s a bunch of FA’s I’d love to have, from Deron Williams to Jeremy Lin, but since we don’t have any good draft picks, our team is aging, and the only good young talent on this team is Gortat, who’s 27.
I had to be pessimistic, because I’m always that guy who thinks his team is going to win the championship every year before the season starts, but even I know that it’s going to take a LOT to get someone like Lin to come here. (And yes, it’s only be 4 games, the reason he’s being called a “star” is because the media is front-paging him like crazy)
Joe Saunders: "They Giants played a really good game, so hats off to us"
Lin is a great example of diamond in the rough. NY got real lucky landing a guy like him, and it lends support to landing great players outside of draft and via trade
If we couldn’t get help from the traditional channel, why can’t we try what NY did and roll the dice with undraft free agent?
I've been secretly hoping for Nash to get shipped to NY in a Old Suns reunion...
I guess that’s probably over now.
What a feel good story this is. 38 points over Kobe.
Ummm… will I get blacklisted if I want to root for NY? I’d been fumbling with it all season, going WTF D’Antoni why is your team sucking?
Another question. Is D’Antoni good or lucky here. You could say lucky, but doesn’t he seem to get lucky a bit more than other coaches?
Following the drama from down unda...
dude, i'm with you!
i’m all in on the knicks! following them will take my mind off of the suckfest that is this suns’ season haha
Knicks are worse then the Suns
As evidenced by the Suns beating them with less talent and payroll.

You're Bright Side's closet Melo fan.
It’s no surprise you’re a Knick fan.
Just because Steve Nash has that "dirty hipster" look doesn't mean he's in need of a shower. Steve Nash bathes in the tears of his victims on a nightly basis.
Mark of a Beast, baby. Mark of a Beast.
They were all set to cut him right at the deadline before ultimately deciding to give him a shot.
I’m guessing luck.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Rooting for NY?!
Never. You might as well root for Miami, Chicago, or the Lakers.
Mike D was lucky because this was a desperation move as he tried his FOURTH point guard this season. I also doubt Lin would have even got a chance if the other PGs were consistent.

The Lakers are the only team I have a problem with there.
I have no issues rooting for the other 2 if the Suns aren’t involved.

I'll pass on the Heat and the Lakers.
I’d rather root for the Mavs or the Spurs than those 2 teams.

I know how you feel about the Heat.
I have no reason to root against them, especially vs. a WC team who has knocked PHX out of the playoffs multiple times.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Yeah, pretty much how I feel about LAL and SAS.

Sorry I'd rather have Nash
Nash is having one of his best seasons ever and is only overshadowed by the ridiculous year CP3 is having with better helpers on the team. Nash will be back next year and probably at about the annual cost of Lin. Lin is an amazing story and its good for the NBA to have this happen to a franchise that quite frankly needs all the help it can get, but he’s no Steve Nash.
I'm sold on Lin
I’ve been sold on Lin since I saw him in D-league. You can’t teach speed. He’s in the perfect situation with Mike D. Lin + Amare are going to tear it up. The Melo injury couldn’t have come at a better time for the Knicks.
The fact that it took this long for Mike D to give Lin a chance speaks volumes to his weakness to recognize talent or develop talent. It’s the exact same thing he did in Phoenix.

Just now found this thread. So after 10 games or whatever, any of you haters believe now? Lin is definitely the real deal. He absolutely has the potential to be the next Steve Nash. Will he be? I don’t know. But he is definitely going to be a long-term starter in the league and most likely an all-star. Great kid. I’m very happy for him. Hilarious how many people missed him right in front of their eyes.
