Here's another one Robert Sarver! (He still is probably not reading this, but for you guys/girls I wanted to put another 2 cents in!)
So, yes, I am originally from Detroit. So, I do pay attention to how my first home town and the sports teams there are doing. I am saddened to see my former Detroit Pistons fall so far from their Bad Boys championship era (Yes, I know if you weren't living in Detroit then you hate the Bad Boys Pistons, but I was in middle school then and they were MY Bad Boys, from the only city I ever knew and called home).
I am now also saddened to see how the Phoenix Suns have fallen from their Conference Championship winning ways. So, I draw a connection when I see my Detroit Tigers' owner, Mr. Mike Ilitch pulling out his checkbook and spending money with his heart set on a championship for his team, his city, the teams' (e.g. The Detroit Red Wings too) fan-base and yes, in the end if the championships come as he envisions, for his bottom line too.
So, I do apologize for bringing baseball references to The Bright Side of the Sun twice AND for a team not named the Diamondbacks, but again, Detroit is where I grew up.
Now, reading this article, if there are implications for a successful sports team to bring an economic boom, a national smiling eye (world peace and puppies for all, heh heh) to a city as Detroit...What could the same do for our home (now) Phoenix!?!
Look, it is not my money and until his books are made 100% public and until all of his basketball oriented conversations are taped and made public (which neither will ever happen), I can not and will not tell another person what to do with their money...But dammit all! If we could just convince a great owner like Mike Ilitch to buy the Suns, I would be all the more happy!

It’s incorrect to say that the Suns issues are about Sarver not wanting to spend money. While he never spent as much as the top top team, the Suns were in the top 10 in the league in salary over the last five years.
More importantly, w/ the salary cap and luxury tax and now with the new super lux tax coming and the new revenue share between owners, money isn’t the problem. It’s about managing the cap and making smart decisions.
The decision to try and replace Amare w/ Warrick, Frye and Childress hurt the Suns far more than if he had remained patient and not spent that money…for example.

Agreed
We shoud have done last year what we did this year. Dole out 1 year deal posistions of need instead of over reacting like we did. Chilldress may have been the best signing but the was no room for him to earn his money so it seemed like a bad deal. If you minus warrick and trading for hedo I think we might have made the playoffs.

Yeah, Sarv was only cheap one year
Other wise, he cares enough to spend money. He just needs to spend it wiser and build a stable, productive and successful Front Office.
Don't trade Dudley!
+1 on stable front office
We have lost a lot of long time employees lately…..

Cardinals, Suns, D-backs for life!
Ha!

All good points
Thank you for the replies, I like the opinions given. I suppose if looked at in perspective, Mike Ilitch may be seen as more frivolous when it comes to spending on his sports teams, that or he may just have more money overall (I don’t feel like looking up other people’s estimated net worth values, so that last statement IS an assumption).
