The best possible playoff scenario for the Phoenix Suns is for the Suns to win three games and the Mavericks and Nuggets to also lose three games, vaulting the Suns to a #6 seed and avoiding a first round matchup against the Spurs or Thunder. Everyone knows the chances of that happening are next to impossible. It's almost as unlikely that one of these two teams (Nuggets or Mavericks) lose three games and the Suns win three games, giving the Suns a #7 seed. So short of these two improbable scenarios, what's the Suns best playoff scenario?I think the best possible scenario (which has a fair degree of probability in happening) is for the Suns to beat Denver and Utah in their next two games -- and clinch the #8 seed. That would mean that they can bench all of their starters in Wednesday's night's final regular season game against the Spurs (the second game of a back-to-back series) -- and have the team rested for a showdown against the Spurs or Thunder in the first round.
The Suns could still sneak into the playoffs if they lose one of their next two remaining games, but they would need help from other teams. A much better scenario for the Suns would be to take care of business against Denver and Utah -- and not have to watch the scoreboard to see what other teams are doing.
Let's hope the Suns are up for the challenge!
