August is the worst month on the NBA calendar for a fan.
The only Suns-related thing going on at the moment is the annual Suns Dancers audition - one-time winners and perennial contenders for the Best Dance Squad in the NBA. Go over to suns.com to vote for your finalists today, and check out videos and photos of the auditions so far!
But at least September is right around the corner! Players are starting to ramp up their conditioning with individual workouts all over the country, and we will soon start hearing about them congregating in one place or another. Jared Dudley usually balls in Las Vegas with 20+ other NBA players as they play pickup games twice a day. Others get involved in pro-am independent leagues in California or New Jersey.
And then sometime by mid-September, we will start hearing a daily count of how many Suns players are practicing together (without coaching) at USAC in downtown Phoenix. Only Marcin Gortat is currently playing competitive basketball (Poland/Euro Qualifying), so there's no reason not to hear of most if not all the players hitting the USAC practice court soon.
Gortat is carrying an otherwise nondescript Polish National Team into the Eurobasket 2013 Qualifying Tournament. His team is 1-1 so far in pool play, which should be good enough to advance to the next round. Let's hope he's facing off against Goran Dragic's Slovenia
and Luis Scola's Argentina (I'm an idiot) next year!
Michael Beasley is ready for a fresh start in Phoenix, the new "face of the franchise" is practicing in the states somewhere (though not sure where) and Channing Frye was recently released to start shooting the basketball as the next phase of his arduous shoulder rehab. Have not heard from any other Suns players lately.
It's an open thread... let's talk!
