Here's a Trade Idea: Suck, Get top 5 Pick, Trade for Gasol, Get $30m in Cap Space

Why don't the Suns do nothing this year to ensure that they get a top 7 pick in the 2013 draft. I know the draft is not strong this year but the Suns have not had a top 7 pick since the 80's, so why not give it a try. According to nbadraft.net, picking aroung 5 to 7 would net the Suns either Anothony Bennett, Marcus Smart or Otto Porter. These guys are likely not superstars but will surely turn out to be better pro's than Morris and Marshall. They could even be fringe all-stars. This summer then Suns should then trade for Pau Gasol in a 3 way deal with Phili and the Lakers which all teams would love; 1. Suns get Gasol ($19m) 2. Phili gets Gortat and Beasley or Frye or a re-signed Johnson ($12 to 14m) 3. Lakers get Young, Hawes and Kwame Brown ($18m) Phili does this deal because they are unlikely to re-sign Bynum and will be with out a staring center next season. I don't think they view Hawes as a started since he does not start this year without Bynum. Gortat is relatively cheap and comes off the books after 2014. This will allow Phili to be competitive next year and have a huge amout of cap room in summer of 2014 when Gortat and JRich come off the books. They can then re-sign Turner to a max contract and have enough left to spend on another max money player to make up for the Bynum mistake. LA does this deal because they suck as constructed. Young is perfect to start at the 4 in Dantoni's system. He is the 2013 version of the Matrix. Hawes is a good back center on a cheap one year deal. And Kwame is Kwame with a one year deal. Most importantly this only commits $18m to the Laker payroll in summer of 2014 and allows them to go after max level free agents (Labron, Love, ect.. The Suns do this deal because Sarver needs to pay back his loans for buying this team. No one is coming to the games this year. If they stand pat and only add a pick, no one will come next year. They will also be on national TV the minumum required amount of times which cuts into profit and interest. Getting Pau for 1 year and $19m is less risky than getting Gay for 2 years at $37m. Pau has been an all star, all nba performer and champion in this league. I know he will be 32 in the summer of 2013, but remember the Suns got Nash when he was just 2 years younger and he won an MVP. I think Pau would have a huge 2013/2014 playing with the Suns and would be happy. The team would also challenge for the playoffs with this expected lineup; Goran, Brown, Dudley, Morris, Pau Marshall, FA SG, Tucker, Scola, FA C Anothony Bennett, Marcus Smart or Otto Porter would also be in the mix as 6th man. In the summer of 2014 the Suns will be a team with as much as $30m in available cap space as only Dragic, Dudley, Scola, Frye/Beasley, Marshal (TO) and Morris (TO) will be on the books. Here is a list of that summer's UFA's class; Dirk, Kobe, Pierce, Granger, Iggy, Deng, Ellis, Mayo, Bogut and Gortat. There is also a ton of RFA's unavailable who the Suns can go after and hope their teams don't mach. With UFA's, possbily getting Granger, Iggy or Deng and resigning Pau would be a good option and will place the team back into playoff contention for 3 to 5 years. What do you all think? 2014/2015 lineup Goraan, Smart/ FA, Granger/Iggy/Deng, Morris/ Bennet, Pau Marshall, Draft pick/ FA, Porter/ FA, Scola, Draft/ FA The suns would have drafted 6 1st round picks by this time as well.
