One player away? Who?

Hey guys I'm Boredoftheflies. I've been lurking on the board for a while and posting occasionally. I got a little bored today so I read BSoTS and thought of an interesting discussion topic.

Some people have said that the Suns are one player away from being a contender. Starting the season, it sure looks like that sometimes. Other times, when they're not playing well, it looks like they're 5 or 6 away. Ouch.

Given their last few games, you have to wonder if they aren't secretly tanking. What if the team decided that getting an almost-sure-to-win lead over the other team and then letting the other team pull away with the W in the last 3 minutes is just as good as winning? I would have a pretty confident and positive attitude too. It would be like having 3 minutes less of game time to use to develop players. All the benefits of really tanking with 45 minutes of player development and building a winning culture? But I digress..........

I was born a little after Charles Barkley and only started following basketball last year when I started playing with my friends, but based on how people talk about it, it sounds like he came and just transformed the Suns into instant contenders, just like Nash did.

If someone were to tell me that the Suns were one player away from contending and then ask me to name a player (doesn't matter if they can get them or not), I would say Kevin Love, Julius Randle, or Lebron James. To me, they just need a strong low post presence that they can use as a go-to-scorer. With Green, Tucker, and Frye spacing the floor and Dragic and Bledsoe penetrating, they could dump the ball on said forward/center for easy points.

Or maybe they need an all-star caliber, athletic perimeter player that can score outside the arc and inside. That would explain the rumors that the Suns want Gordon Hayward (if those rumors are true).

What do you guys think? I know a lot of you don't comment on fanposts much, but this is my first and the more who participate, the more fun it would be. Think about fit and skill level, and try to be creative, because of course any team would be a contender with Lebron. Post away!
