Suns: receive Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, (ethier Charlotte's protected first round pick or the rights to Nikola Mirotic), and the rights to Dallas' 2014 first round pick (which they get if it is pick 1-20)
Mavericks receive: Loul Deng
Why Phoenix does it: The Phoenix Suns will receive 2 expiring contracts and two former suns (Marion is a former fan-favorite) and in the process acquire two more first round picks in the loaded 2014 draft. This could leave them with 6 first round picks and they would have a plethora of options to trade up or package a few of the picks together to acquire a star. Also trading Dragic and Tucker would be putting the Suns in clear tank-mode which would boost their odds of landing one of the prized freshman in this years draft.
Why Chicago does it: To tank or not to tank? That's the question in Chicago these days, but I really feel like they should maximize the talent on this years roster and retool for next season (and pray for a successful return from Derrick Rose). Goran Dragic would offer them solid play at the point guard position for this year, and with a healthy Derrick rose (and Jimmy Butler) they could form what could possibly be the leagues best backcourt. This is a short term answer in the absence of Derrick Rose and a long term answer as a combo guard. He guarantees you 15 and 6, and they would also be maximizing the value of Deng. They would also be replacing Deng's defense with Tucker's aggression and toughness.
Why Dallas does it: Maximizing Dirk's final years in the league should be the main priority for Dallas, as adding Deng to the roster would represent a clear upgrade. He's an upgrade over Marion on both offense and defense and would help Dallas match up with some of the better perimeter players in the league. He would be easy to resign with Mark Cuban as owner, and would help the Mavericks form a formidable starting lineup with Dirk, Deng, Ellis, and Calderon. To sweeten the deal they could ask for the Suns athletic and surprisingly good center, Miles Plumlee. His athleticism would be welcome to a roster deprived of it, and help them defend against the more athletic centers in the NBA. And to only give up two aging players on expiring contracts and a draft pick which will likely be in the mid to late teens to get him, it could end up being a bargain.
Tell me me what you think in the comments? Any adjustments to make this trade work? BTW this trade works in the ESPN Trade Machine, I already tried it.
