Ok here me out! The suns would get-
The pistons would get- goran dragic, Louis scola, Shannon brown, -possibly Michael Beasley but probably not
Why it works for the suns- the suns would get a quality young asset in Andre Drummond who certainly has star potential. He is young, cheap, athletic and can play next to Alex Len. Now to make this work the suns would be absorbing 2 very bad contracts in Villanueva and stuckey. They each make about 8 million dollars this year. But the good news is that they are both free agents after this year so their salaries would be off the books and create lots of cap room. We would also get a nice young asset in Brandon knight. He is still young, has some potential, and has the shooting the suns are looking for. The real reason this trade works is that by getting rid of dragic, brown, and scola, we would almost assure ourselves of being a very bad team for the upcoming and star-studded 2014 draft. Bledsoe can fill dragics shoes, brown is replacable by a young free agent, and we certainly have plenty of power forwards on the roster to compensate for scola. So bassically we get a budding young star in Drummond, 2 bad contracts that come off the books after one year to create cap space, and we become worse this year but better in the long run.
Why it works for the pistons- After the josh smith signing, it has become clear that the pistons are in a win now mode. They certainly have talent, but they certainly have a few holes on their roster too. They have 2 power forwards in smith and Drummond(smiths best position is clearly pf), they have no starting caliber point gaurd, and they lack the neccesary role players to be a good team. In this trade they solve a lot of their issues. First of all, they get a starting caliber point gaurd in dragic who is in the prime of his career. He is a solid contributor across the board and a top 15 point gaurd in this leauge. Next, by trading Drummond, this would allow the pistons roster to fit together and be more balanced. Josh smith would slide to power forward where he is certainly much better and would allow Monroe to stay at center. They would also get a quality 3rd big man in scola, and a decent role player in Brown. All 3 of these players are under reasonable contracts and they would be shipping out there bad contracts In Villanueva and stuckey. It's a steep price to pay in giving up Drummond, but it's ultimately a price there going to have to pay if they want to be a winner.
Tell me what you think of this trade.
