Where would Amare be now? and what kind of past would there have been for the Suns and Amare if he would have stayed? Would Steve Kerr stayed as GM? Rumor has it Turkoglu was already a planned to be aquired before Amare decided to leave. This would have allowed him to play at his natural position for us at SF. Right now at 31 years of age Amare is looking like a player who has played 15-18 seasons. Coming off the bench playing limited minutes. If the price was low enough to be not such a risk and Amare had stayed would his career been more rewarding? Could our training staff been able to keep him at All-Star or close to All-Star condition. Would we have been able to avoid some of the injuries he had suffered in New York?
What would the Suns have done with one or two more season with him and Nash with more talent added to the roster? Instead of falling in the same class as Tracy McGrady and other stars gone cripple would Amare been remembered as one of the best PF to play the game?
Greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins and I can see why. I truly believe that if Amare had put loyalty and understanding in front of money and self worship his place in NBA history would have turned out a bit more brighter. All he had to do was say, "I understand I had injury issues and I can see why you would be concerned. Don't pay me the max use that extra money to get more talent and let's make a real push at the Finals."
He could be a veteran for this young team now. A leader maybe averaging 15-18 points per game along side Dragic and Bledsoe. Using knowlege to out smart younger power forwards with a crisp mid range jumper and a sly hook shot. Instead he is the laughing stock of New York with a bank account that he may never spend in his lifetime. Instead of taking a legacy to the grave he will only take his checkbook.
Amare Stoudemire was my favorite Sun during the SSOL era. It makes me sad we will most likely never see his name in the ring of honor and we shouldn't. You need to have honor to be in the Suns ring.
