Looking at Goodwin

Some Archie Goodwin stats:

NBA: 10.3 mins pg, 3.7 ppg, 54.2% 2PTFG, 13.9% 3PTFG

D-League: 35.4 mpg, 26.4 ppg, 54.0% 2PTFG, 38.5% 3PTFG, 2.0 3PTFGm, 5.2 3PTFGA

The numbers are from DraftExpress.

Go here to see Goodwin's game against the Kings, where he scored 29 pts. This is the game box score. If go to the line of the box score with Archie's numbers, you will be able to click on the number "13" which is in the FGA column - this is the comple set of Goodwin's field goal attempts. If you click on the number "13" you will be able to look at video for all of Goodwin's shots that game.

Now... I know this was a "junk time" game of 2nd/3rd string players vs 2nd/3rd string players, but wow! Goodwin's ability to get to the basket and finish reminds me of a young Michael Jordan. No exagerration. I'm not saying he's the next MJ, but he definitely has a skill at getting to the rim and finishing with gusto.

Meanwhile, his 3PT shooting numbers in the D-League offer the promise that he can be an effective long-range shooter.

All of this offers food for thought. If Goodwin continues to show progress, the Suns might be less inclined to seek a SG in the draft. Not that SG is a need - I think picks for the SF and PF spots are where the Suns need to go, myself - but this might make the Suns less inclined to go for a SG-best player available in the draft.
