Watching the game one's this weekend remind us all that the playoffs are about extending the defense for every possession the entire forty eight minutes. There are no plays off, no man left open to shoot and certainly no five minutes of missing intensity. The players that are determining the game's outcome are battling down low with strength and persistence. No one is crying for fouls, they are busy fighting for every rebound to close out the 24 seconds of strong defense.
The Washington Wizards hard fought victory over the Bulls in Chicago really stands out for what type of players the Suns should be considering to add for our next season as we Determine the Future. The Wizards back court blazing tandem of Wall and Beal remind us of our Suns. They are built for speed. The stars of the game one were NeNe and Gortat. These two guys were able to grind it out toe to toe with Noah and the Bulls. The Wizards were ready for the post season with these acquisitions and the Suns should be doing the same as we eye the future.
As the Suns closed out the regular season they faced key stretches in the most important games that possessed the intensity of the playoffs. Our current squad was not ready for this level of grind it out, get stops and power through with strength. As we build for the future we should consider players that make us playoff ready and tougher in the grind it out contests with Memphis, San Antonio and everyone else. We should not be afraid that a strong physical player or players, will stop us from being a quick team. Washington demonstrates that you need both speed and strength to succeed in the post season. I think that their model should be considered by the Suns as we move to the next level and prepare for a championship.
