Phoenix Suns' point guard, Goran Dragic, is one of 12 players that will get a chance to play for the Slovenian National Basketball Team in this year's World Championship.

Even thought Dragic initially indicated that he planned on resting and rehabbing during the offseason, he changed his mind, and just last week announced, that he wants to play again this summer. Since 2006, Goran has played in two World Championships and three EuroBaskets (European Championship). Dragic was named the All-Tournament Team at the EuroBasket 2013, after he averaged 15,8 PPG and lead his team to 5th place. This year, he averaged 20.3 PPG, 5.9 APG, and shot better than 50% from the field, to earn the Most Improved Player Award.

On the national team, he will be joined by his brother Zoran Dragic, Jure Balazic, Jaka Blazic, Jaka Klobucar, Domen Lorbek, Erazem Lorbek, Edo Muric, Alen Omic, Klemen Prepelic, Uros Slokar and Miha Zupan. These 12 players are part of the Slovenian National Basketball Team A. There are 16 other players on the Slovenian National Basketball Team B, including Domen Bratoz, Jaka Brodnik, Ziga Dimec, Ziga Fifolt, Matej Krusic, Miha Lapornik, Luka Lapornik, Mitja Nikolic, Blaz Mahkovic, Gezim Morina, Dino Muric, Marko Pajic, Klemen Prepelic, Matej Rojc, Luka Rupnik and Daniel Vujasinovic. Five players from Team B will join Team A in the middle of July. The head coach of Slovenia, Jure Zdovc, will take 12 players to Spain, where Slovenia will play in Group D, in Gran Canaria.

In 2010, Slovenia finished 8th among 24 teams, four years earlier, on their first World Championship, they finished 12th. Their biggest success on the international stage is the 4th place from EuroBasket 2009. In 2013, when EuroBasket was in Slovenia, they finished 5th.
