How Patty Mills gets you Kevin Love and a championship....confused????

As a suns fan from Australia, I have long had a fascination with Patty Mills joining our roster. It stemmed from way back when Goran was traded originally to the Rockets, and a spot opened up to back up the "Nashty" one. At that time, Mills was plying his trade as a glorified cheerleader on the end of a Portland bench getting junk minutes. But he would return to lead our national team and consistently put up good points against high quality international opposition.

I would often wonder why a team would see him play so well against his NBA peers in international competition and then plonk him on the end of the bench and not in rotations. He was severely undervalued. Since his move to the San Antonio Spurs, his playing time trajectory has consistently increased (mostly due to Tony Parkers injury issues), but again he steps into the role and delivers and I presume, has earnt the trust of 'Pop' to become part of their rotations.

So how does getting Mills, help us towards Kevin Love. Patty Mills is a true PG, who can be a scorer when needed or a facilitator. He would provide depth at the PG spot, thus allowing us to explore the options of trading one of our star guard combination and allowing Green to move into a permanent starting SG spot.

Whilst I am not suggesting he could replicate anything that Dragic or Bledsoe deliver currently, he at least would provide a second option if one was to be traded in a package to get Love to Phoenix. In 81 games this past season, he has delivered 10.8pts, 1.8ast and 2.1reb with a per rating of 18.8. Compare that to Dragic who has a per of 21.43(20.3/5.9/3.2) and Bledsoe at 19.62 (17.7/5.5/4.7). It 's interesting.

Whilst losing one of the 'slash bros' is less than ideal, for Minnesota to bite, we have to offer one of them in any package for Love. Draft picks alone won't get a deal done especially with the competition to get Love coming from many suitors. Our roster full of new draftees (who we won't trade) and role players who have delivered one good season, will not provide any interest to the t-wolves. It simply must be our picks and one of our guards (and I think the dragons age may count him out).

I guess essentially the question is......... Can you fill the role of Bledsoe or to a lesser extent Dragic with others to justify giving them up for Love and will that get you closer to a championship banner. I think having either Dragic or Bledsoe and Kevin Love gets you closer there with our existing roster than having Dragon Blade. And filling that open roster spot with a guy like Mills will cover some of the loss from that!
