When comparing these three players, one stat stands out the most: at rim shooting %.
All three of these players are elite at finishing around the rim. How elite? Last season they were all in the top 5 among starting point guards. The triumvirate even top or compare favorably with the leagues best big men.
Dragic leads the pack at (.696%) on 266/382. Dragic's combination of volume and efficiency is insane.
Chris Paul is second (.693%) on 95/137. Pretty small sample size, but he missed a lot of games.
Thomas is third, checking in at (.685%) on 139/203. He took nearly half the amount of shots at the rim as Dragic, but he made up for it with efficient shooting from 3 to 10 ft (.414). Not bad for a 5'9 PG. Furthermore, he shot 162/239 on layups, which is interesting, but more on that later.
Bledsoe barely claims the 3rd spot over George HIll with his (.665%) to Hill's (.663%). However, Hill's sample size was 112/169 over a full season. Bledsoe's sample size of 125/188 suggest that he can convert these shots at a high volume while maintaining efficiency, granted he can stay healthy a full season.
John Wall rounds out the top 5 with (.661%), but his volume surpassed even Dragic's, as he made 263/398.
Jose Calderon shot (.636%), but on only 77 attempts.
Other notable PG's: Tony Parker (.628%), Stephen Curry (.626%), Mike Conley (.617%), Mario Chalmers (.611%), Jeff Teague (.608%), Deron Williams (.600%), Kyle Lowry (.592), Russell Westbrook (.579%). Kyrie Irving (.576%), Ty Lawson (.575), Rajon Rondo (.544), Damian Lillard (.529), Rick Rubio (.491) Yikes!
Didn't have time to check SG's, but some notable ones are: Manu Ginobli (.692%), James Harden (.628%), Monta Ellis (.604%).
Some notable big guys are: Dwight Howard (.715%), Anthony Davis (.704%), Demarcus Cousins (.673%)
Another stat that stands out is true shooting percentage: Dragic (.604%), Bledsoe (.578%), Thomas (.574%). I didn't research TS%, but I'm pretty sure those are some of the highest in the league among starting PG's as well.
One stat that Isiah Thomas brings to the table that I am really excited about is FT%. Thomas shot (.850%) from the line last year compared to Dragic's (.760%), and Bledsoe's (.772%).
Thomas just seems like a solid shooter overall with a slash line of .453/.359/.850. Could he possibly be a 50/40/90 someday?
I'll admit that I don't understand the at rim% stat completely. In some cases it seems to count layups, and in other cases, like with Isiah Thomas, many of his layups weren't counted. Can anyone clarify?
