What are your thoughts on Bobby Portis?

Question: is Bobby Portis a viable option in the draft?

I have to admit, I am less excited about this draft, than last year's. There are fewer candidates that a I like for the Suns at the 13th pick.

The Suns need a defensive/rebounding PF, or just big man help in general; and a good 3pt shooter; and a player with star potential. Except for Kentucky SG Devin Booker, I don't see anybody who will be there at the 13th pick who will meet those needs.

But Portis is intriguing. The knock on him seems to be that he's not explosive, and that his lack of leaping ability hurts him as a defensive rebounder, rim protector, and finisher around the rim. That's a lot to worry about.

But on the other hand, he has great potential as a stretch-4 with his shooting ability, he really runs the floor, he can run and finish on the break. With his speed and mobility, I think he could even play SF in a pinch.

I see what Nikola Mirotic did for the Bulls, and Portis is not the same player right now, but he can have that kind of impact with time. Any thoughts?

Again, I am not saying he is the perfect guy. But I think his potential as big man who can shoot, and also run, and who is mobile, has some attraction, despite his limitations.
