Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics announced on Monday that they have waived forward Darius Miles.
The 27-year-old Miles has missed the last two and a half seasons after microfracture surgery on his right knee, and was attempting to get back in the league with the defending NBA champions. The Celtics signed Miles, who was an unrestricted free agent, on August 22.
Miles, the former No. 3 overall draft pick in 2000 by the Los Angeles Clippers out of East St. Louis High School, averaged a career-high 14 points and 4.6 rebounds in 40 games for the Trail Blazers during the 2005-06 campaign. He has posted career averages of 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.15 blocks in 412 career games with the Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Portland.
"Darius was a model citizen during his time here in Boston. He showed that he still has a lot of basketball left in him," said Celtics executive director of basketball operations and general manager Danny Ainge.
