Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Kevin Garnett posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help lead the Boston Celtics in a 96-80 rout of the Chicago Bulls at TD Banknorth Garden.
Garnett, who became the youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 career games Friday, was 7-of-11 from the field while Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen each contributed 14 points.
Pierce had nine boards and Rondo dished out six helpers for Boston, which celebrated its championship from last season before Tuesday's season-opening 90-85 home victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The No. 1 overall draft pick this past April, Derrick Rose, led the way for Chicago with 18 points, while Tyrus Thomas and Ben Gordon dropped 11 each for the Bulls, who started their season with a 108-95 home win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday in head coach Vinny Del Negro's debut with the team.
Chicago shot a woeful 29.8 percent from the field (25-for-84)
The Celtics dominated the first half and came away with a 24-13 lead after the first quarter and eventually a 49-31 advantage at the half.
The Bulls went a stretch of almost five minutes without a bucket in the third, which played a role in the Celtics' 70-54 lead heading into the final frame.
Boston maintained complete control throughout the remainder of the contest, stretching its lead to 28 with a little over 3 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Boston swept the season series from Chicago last year 4-0...Garnett set the age mark at 32 years and 165 days to break the previous mark held by former Sonics star Shawn Kemp. Kemp set the mark when he was 33 years and 24 days...Chicago's Joakim Noah grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds....Boston's Leon Powe had 13 points and six rebounds while Kendrick Perkins brought down 10 boards and chipped in eight points.
