Recap: Utah vs. LA Clippers

Sports Network | November 01, 2008

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer scored 25 points and hauled in 10 rebounds, as the Utah Jazz used a big second half to pummel the Los Angeles Clippers, 101-79.

Still without guard Deron Williams, who sat out with an ankle sprain, the Jazz won their second straight game behind Boozer's 12-of-18 shooting and Ronnie Brewer's 16 points. Paul Millsap added 11 points, while Mehmet Okur had nine points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Utah used a 30-4 run in the third and fourth quarters to take control of the game, as the team shot 48.9 percent from the floor.

Cuttino Mobley led the Clippers with 20 points, while Chris Kaman had 11 points and 12 rebounds, as Los Angeles has now dropped all three of its games this season. Tim Thomas had 16 points, and Mike Taylor scored 13 points in defeat.

The Clippers were without star point guard Baron Davis, who left the team's previous game against the Nuggets with a left hip/tailbone injury.

With the game tied at 60 after Thomas netted two free throws, the Jazz closed out the remaining 4:54 of the third quarter on a 15-0 run to take a commanding lead.

Brewer started the burst with an old-fashioned three-point play, and the guard added two more baskets -- including one from long distance -- to extend the lead to 11. Andrei Kirilenko and Millsap each closed out the frame with a basket to head into the fourth up 75-60.

It was more of the same in the final period, as Utah opened a 15-4 run to start the quarter. Okur's 20-footer made it 90-64 with 6:16 to play, and the Clippers didn't get within 20 for the rest of the game.

In the opening quarter, Mobley and Thomas combined to score 21 of the Clippers' 25 points in the frame. But Boozer contributed 10 points for the Jazz in the first, and Los Angeles headed into the second clinging to a 25-24 lead.

The Clippers went up by as many as five early in the second, but Utah fought back to take its first lead of the quarter at 36-34 after Millsap made a dunk with 5:05 left. The teams continued to trade baskets, as neither team led by more than four the rest of the way and headed into the break tied at 48.

Utah head coach Jerry Sloan missed Saturday's game with the flu. Phil Johnson took over the coaching duties for the game...The Jazz have defeated the Clippers in seven of their last nine meetings...Kyle Korver, who was a game- time decision with right wrist inflammation, scored four points in a little over 19 minutes...Kirilenko scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
