Celtics sign first round pick

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics signed guard J.R. Giddens to an undisclosed contract Tuesday. Giddens, the team's first round draft pick out of New Mexico, was the Mountain West Conference co-Player of the Year as a senior when he averaged 16.3 points and a league leading 8.8 rebounds in 33 games played. The 30th overall pick in the draft, Giddens is the first player from New Mexico to have been drafted by the Celtics.
