Game Thread: Phoenix Suns at Indiana Pacers

I'm excited for tonight's game.  I don't know what to expect from the Pacers.  They can be really good or really bad.  Jermaine O'Neal can come out and be a non-factor because of the Suns' defense or he can come out and beat the Suns single-handedly.

Keys to the game?  I really don't know.  To be honest, the Pacers haven't really grabbed my attention this year.  I don't think I've seen them play even once.  I started feeling bad about that until I looked at their standings and stats.  I don't know anything about Indiana because they're just an ordinary team.  They're average.  They aren't really good.  They aren't really bad.

Their record is 29-26.  They've won 5 and lost 5 out of their past 10. They score 97.3 points per game.  They let their opponents score 97.6 points per game.  There's just nothing that stands out about them (unless you count the thuggery that they started getting known for).

So I don't even know what to expect tonight.  Will they just lay down and roll over when the Suns come into town?  Will they play with a chip on their shoulder because they want to beat a good team and get their name out there?  Will the Suns play weak offense and even weaker defense because the Pacers are just a ho-hum team?  I have no idea!  I do know they have a good blogger over at Indy Cornrows.

The game is on early tonight because it's in Indiana.  It starts at 5:00 Phoenix time.  Give me your thoughts on the game and what the Suns need to do.  Me?  I just don't know.

Well....
My heart tells me that the Suns will eat the Pacers alive tonight, but my gut tells me our boys are gonna come out lazy and allow the Pacers to keep it a close game.  I certainly hope the later isnt the case, but we all know that sometimes our boys play some so-so ball if they feel it's gonna be easy.
Overall i'm confident for a W, whether it's a blowout or close one.  STAT has shown no signs of slowing down and seems to get better every game.  The Matrix is likewise playing like a beast on both ends of the floor.  Nash looks like his shoulder is back to normal.  LB is shooting like a friggen sniper from behind the arc.  Plus our good French budy, 3D shall be returning tonight (on and off the bench).  I cant imagin a meltdown by the Suns against this team, but i'm sure i said the same think when the TWolves cracked our win streak.   So...... we'll see, but i still expect a W from the Suns, bar Jermain totally lighting us up.

Mark my words
Somebody on Indiana will go off for a season high tonight. I would have guessed Marquis Daniels (just the type of "unexpected" guy who has the potential based on what I saw when he played for Dallas in 03-04), but I think I read he's been out with an injury or something. So my next guess would be either Mike Dunleavy or Troy Murphy. Mind you, I don't think it's going to be enough to give the Pacers a win (though the game will be a lot closer than it "should" be given the disparity in records), but somebody will go off on the Suns today, because, well, that's what always seems to happen in this situation where the opposing team is looking for the big upset. Oh, and it won't be Jermaine O'Neal either--I think Amare and KT will be ready for him. It's the unexpected guys I worry about.

Oh and speaking of thuggery and Daniels
I can't express how disappointed I am to see that Marquis Daniels seems to have fallen into the wrong crowd since the trade to Indiana. To the best of my knowledge, he NEVER had any of those kind of issues in Dallas, and was one of the few Mavericks I still cared about watching after they finished blowing up the 02-03 team. Unfortunately, he didn't fit in nearly as well under Avery Johnson as he did under Don Nelson, but he showed a LOT of potential in 03-04 (particularly when Nash missed some games).
