Game Thread: Phoenix Suns vs. Golden State Warriors

The Warriors like to run.  The Suns like to run.  The Warriors are fighting for the playoffs.  The Suns have their division locked up.  The Warriors have lost two in a row.  The Suns have won 1 in a row.

These teams both need the win tonight.  The Warriors need to win to keep going on their playoff push.  The Suns need to win because they need to get their confidence back.  The Suns have to play Denver on Friday and Dallas on Sunday.  It would be nice to pick up the pace in these next three games and come out ahead.

The key to tonight's game is intensity.  The Suns haven't showed it a lot over the past few games.  The Warriors should have it tonight.

I predict the Suns will win the game by 10.  What's your prediction?

suns vs warriors
I think it's all about the playoffs, especially now that they're so close. But I think they'll win by 7. 116-109

That was just lazy...
That was a lazy try for a rebound by Shawn...he could have had that for sure...

31-45, Golden State...absolutely amazing

Finally the end of the quarter!!
After 1 quarter, it's 33-45.  They're on track to score 134-180! :-D

109-86 beginning of fourth
Wow, golden state is really playing hard, Suns had a spurt, but aren't matching the energy. The refs are letting golden state get away with alot of calls, Suns would still be losing, but not like this!
111-93 LOVE TO SEE THEM get within 10

suns bench
really says alot about kurt thomas, barbosa, banks, jones, and diaw for their defense!! If the Suns could just mix their offense with some of that defense.

Warriors...
needed this game more than the suns... still though... the suns aren't playing where they should be and there had better not be any excuses from anyone because of it.  The warriors straight up out played the suns.
Nellie has the key to shutting down nash and dirk, I dont know what it is, but he knows those guys backwards and forwards.  The suns have struggled with 2 of the wins, blew out one game, and then should have been blown out by at least 20 in tonights had it not been for the bench players who game in and played a little D...  Dallas has lost 2 against them this year, and they still have one left I believe.
Dallas lost one to the warriors a few weeks back a few days before the suns beat them earlier this month, it'll be interesting to see what happens now on sunday.

A silver lining
If there was such a thing as a good loss, I would say this was it. A loss by the Suns is always bad but something good may come out of this one. I was happy to see Coach D sticking with his bench and not letting the starters in, when the Suns shaved the Warriors' lead to single digits. At one point I thought the Suns might pull it off, but it was not to be. The Warriors absolutely needed this win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Since I was at my speech contest early part of the evening (BTW I won both of them), I missed most of the first half. I listened to the last few minutes of the second quarter on my car radio while driving home. It sounded like the Suns were within striking distance (12 points, I think at that time). By the time I reached home, things were worse. I wanted to see what coach D was going to do, and I was happy to see the bench stopping the Warriors. They needed to score a lot more points though to have a shot at winning. LB missed a couple of key shots, or the Suns might have pulled it off.

Why am I so upbeat about this defeat? Normally I would be screaming that the Suns would lose all of their remaining games - LOL. It was good to see the Suns play at least some defense in the 4th quarter and actually get some stops. It showed how valuable KT and JJ are to the Suns. Banks even shot a 3 pointer and he was able to stop ....I am forgetting the name of the player.  The bench got a lot of playing time, and the starters got much needed rest. I think the Suns will benefit from the bench's playing time during the playoffs. Nash actually looked pleased toward the end of the game. He was harrassed throughout, from what the commentators said. I only watched him in the 3rd Q, I think; can't remember if he played in the 4th. Sadly, his chances of winning the MVP have completely disappeared after this game. It exposed his weakness- lack of strong defense- just like in the Sacramento game. He has all the great qualities but other teams are learning how to make him less effective.

Diaw got more points than in the last game, but it frustrates me to see him not take an open shot near the basket, and pass the ball to someone for a low probability 3-point shot. Will he never take advantage of shooting opportunities?  I don't know if it's a confidence problem with him.

Of course I would have preferred a win by the Suns but I feel much more positive about this loss than I did after the Sacramento and Denver losses. There was nothing good about those games.

We will see if the Suns can rebound tomorrow against Denver and Sun. against the Mavs. If they don't they will drop to the #3 seed. I hope that creates a sense of urgency. My prediction remains the same as before- the Suns will win one of the two remaining games this week. If they lose both, they are in serious trouble.
