Game Thread: Phoenix Suns vs Los Angeles Lakers

The Suns meet the Lakers again and the Lakers now have some bulletin board fodder.  Amare Stoudemire said something along the lines of, "We expect the first round of the playoffs against the Lakers to be a quick one and then we'll move on to the second round."  Hmmm, not exactly sure you want to give the Lakers an incentive to play harder.

Even still, I don't expect the Lakers to give a huge fight tonight.  The Lakers lost to the Clippers last night and I think the Suns will win by at least 10 tonight.

What are your thoughts?  (Boy, am I ready for the playoffs to get here already!!)

LAL will be motivated
Even though LAL has two easy games coming up that would ensure their #7 seed, I think they will be motivated to play hard tonight. The loss to LAC last  night must have stung, and the fear of dropping to #8 (and playing the Mavs) will make them work extra hard tonight. This could be a dangerous game for the Suns. Kobe can make a difference any time. The Suns better not relax.

I wish Amare had not made that statement. Why give the other team any fuel?

I will be at the game tonight. I think it will be a zoo out there, with lots of Lakers fans making noise.

fan from texas
Glad to see the game is on national tv tonight! I'm thinking of buying a sling box and hooking it up to a tv in phoenix (folks) so I can stream all suns (local televised) games thru the Internet to me here in Dallas. Or paying the $200 or whatever it is to nba.com to get the season online. Been a tough year not seeing all the games. Very excited to have the playoffs start soon!!

Not too pretty but a win!
Kobe did look like he was gassed and the Suns (Amare and Jr. Jones) couldn't make a shot for their lives until Amare came through in the 4th.  Nash was amazing and showed once again why he should win his 3rd MVP.  Props to Boris on that hustle play!  I hope he plays more like that as they head into the post season.

If the Lakers don't watch out, they could slide right out of the playoff picture.  It pissed me off to see people (Laker fans, ugh!)holding up signs about Kobe being the real MVP (pulease!) and Nash=Overrated behind Tom Chambers and Leander? during the post-game.  Suns fans should have ripped those posters out of their hands and destroyed them!

Nash was magical
Right from the word go, Steve Nash was scoring, rebounding, assisting. He was amazing tonight.

I thought the Suns played well as a team. If there is a consolation, they won after shooing 38 percent! Their defense was something today, holding Kobe to 17 points.

Jr Jones just could not make a shot. He was rebounding well, but he has to score some points.

It was good to sse Boris hustling and taking shots.

Defense
One more thing. The Suns won because of their defense tonight. The shooting was awful, except for Nash. They did well on FT's though which really made a difference, with LAL shooting just 60% from the FT line. The Suns shot 38% and held the Lakers to 40% FG. Raja and Marion (to some extent) made Kobe ineffective.

bell outscores kobe
ever since the playoffs last year, i've known if there is 1 man in the NBA who can shut down kobe, its Bell.  this guy is just awesome.  if the first round is against these lakers, then bring on the spurs.   hopefully, denver can make some noise and possibly take the spurs out or at least wear them down a bit.  if we can just make it to the western conf. finals, this is our year!
