New Twist - Duncan left the bench in the 2nd Qtr - Video added
New Twist! - Duncan on the floor
I am listening to a great interview w/ Iveroni on 910 radio:
Bickley mentions that in the 2nd quarter when Elson dunks and gets tangled w/ James Jones and there's a little flare up. During that flare up Duncan appearantly left the bench. Iveroni was clear that the NBA is or will be made aware of that. I will check the tape of this incident and see if I can't get a video made of it.
Iveroni mentioned that about half way through the 4th quarter he turned and warned the bench that if something happened not to leave the bench but both Diaw and Amare were on the floor and didn't hear the warning.
Iveroni said that right when it happened he screwed up. He saw Coach D rush towards Nash but also where Parker was and he went after him instead of turning and taking care of the bench.
Interesting

If Duncan left, he should be gone, too.
But realize this is about more than this series, it's also about how other teams will use the NBA's reaction to this to their advantage. If they aren't consistent, every team will use circumstances and who it affects as a defense. Either apply it universally or not at all.
There is an espn live discussion about the amare suspension etc thing here soon.
and I got this response from her a few minutes ago. I just wanted to get it out for the discussion that we have video showing Duncan broke the rule also!! Fantastic!

Sigh...
No altercation here kids. Not even a foul. Good try though...

Yup
They won't want to ignore Amare and Diaw breaking the rule and they will understand how unfair it is to the Suns to suspend them as well given they really didn't DO anything. They will hate to have a call from the head office have such a huge impact on the result of the series.
So, maybe - maybe - they will use this as a way to balance things out. Duncan and Horry and Amare and Diaw off the board is a fairly even trade.

This rule hasn't always been followed
"There is a huge difference between a hard foul (to make a point to the opposition - ala Raja) and trying to break someone's bones/balls (ala bowen) or, lashing out, in childish frustration (or perhaps the urging of your boss) like horry.
The Celtics once sent in scrub Don Chaney (who became an NBA coach) to take out the hot suns guard Rickey Sobers in the 1976 playoffs. Sobers fought back and was not suspended.
The league should apply discretion, and punish the petulant (or perhaps organizationally encouraged) behavior or horry.
I have viewed the video and amare was clearly rushing to check on nash.(diddy7432, May 14, 2007 10:35PM)"
I'm telling you, I just don't think Amare will be suspended. He didn't say anything to any Spurs player, or touch anyone. Also Amare has had issues which the league has even investigated against the dirty spurs (not all the team, just a few players). You "It's the rule" people will be in for a shock.

I just sent this email around to a bunch of ....

A few things comes up from this. First, if we are all letter of the law shouldn't Duncan be at LEAST "investigated" and potentially suspended?
Second, if the answer to the above is no - then doesn't that mean that the term "altercation" in NBA Rule 12-A-VII-c is open to interpretation? If so, did what happen when Amare left the bench count? Shouldn't this be defined somehow? Is this a way for Stern to not ruin the series?
Not sure -- but definitely food for thought.

Great job - thanks
They can't "want" to suspend Amare and Diaw but must be feeling like they have to defend their rules. Hopefully, this will be an equalizer either way (suspend or don't suspend).
It also btw kind takes some of the "heat" off Amare for making a "stupid young mistake" by reacting given that Duncan reacted in a very similar way.
As for the lack of "altercation" on this one you could interpret that Duncan's reaction was more likely to start an altercation in that he jumped up right away as if to "start something". I don't know - just another thought.

Sigh...
c. During an altercation, all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench.
you realize that Amare and Boris need to be suspended, Duncan does not. Just read the rules.

Hey if that's what the Spurs need to win
After blowing a lead in a game they were clearly dominating they must be thinking "damn, maybe if the league suspends Amare and Diaw we will have a snow balls chance in Phoenix".
Oh, well. That's the team of Magic Eye Duncan, Feet's Bowen and Cheap Shot Bob.

21Duncan
Unfortunately for the Spurs, they've realized that they're way outclassed by the Suns and have resorted to thug basketball to try and win the series. You know how everyone says the shortened season should have an asterisk next to the Spurs name as champions? If the Suns don't get out of this series, I think this one deserves an asterisk as well.
The only reason for doing this is because the Spurs can't win at real basketball. They have to turn it into jungle ball. What a bunch of losers.
