Spurs Take Game 5

The Suns played an awesome game.  They were missing 30 points between Stoudemire and Diaw.  And yet they lead most of the game.  Unfortunately, they started getting tired in the last 3 minutes and the Suns just couldn't hold on.

But what do you expect?  The Suns were basically playing 6 players against the Spurs' 10 players.

The things the Suns can take away from this game?  They were missing 30 points and only lost by 3.  The only reason the Suns lost was because they got tired and ended being on the crummy end of a 17-6 run by the Spurs.

What does this mean for the Suns?  It means they have a 17% chance to win the series.  They have to win 2 games in a row with one of the games being in San Antonio.  The Suns will be at full strength on Friday.  They'll have Amare and Boris back.  The Spurs will not have Cheap Shot Bob back for that game.  But who really cares whether he's back anyway?  He's just an old man who doesn't produce anyway.

I'm proud of the way the Suns played this game.  They could have just given in and they didn't.  They played their hearts out and were a 3 point shot away from winning it.  They got 5 more shots than the Spurs.  They shot the exact same percentage - 40.3%.  They only missed 1 free throw.  They won the rebound game.  They won the assist game.  Unfortunately, they had 2 more turnovers and that was what killed them.

I wonder what David Stern is thinking right now.  I know he was scheduled to come to Phoenix for this game but canceled because he was afraid for his life.  And he should have been.

If you look at the box score, the teams were pretty much even.  But you know what the Spurs did?  They made 1 three point shot more than the Suns.  And that was what they won by.

It's just unbelievable.

I am still optimistic for Friday's game.  I do think the Suns can win that game.  Look at what they did without two of their best players!  They've already beat the Spurs in San Antonio once.  They can do it again.  You can't fault the Suns for anything tonight.  They played their hearts out and just lost by a little bit.

I'm a little frustrated right now so I'm going to stop writing.  But I want it known that I'm not frustrated with the Suns.  I'm frustrated with the dirty Spurs, I'm frustrated with the NBA, I'm frustrated with Amare and Boris for not thinking.  But the guys who played tonight?  I'm not frustrated with them at all.

GO SUNS!

100 percent....correct
Cannot disagree with anything you have said...hell...I can't even make something up that remotley challenges anything you said.

Great game Suns....win...lose...whatever I was proud to be a Suns fan tonight and will always be.

My hats off to the Dirty Spurs...they did what they had to do to win, and made the shots when they had to.  I have always hated and will continue to hate them for being a dirty team, but tonight I had to respect them (its to late...early to be held accountable for anything).

I think I read in a blog earlier this evening...we are not the same Suns of old...they grew up in this series.

One thing for sure...this series is not over...so lets not lose hope.

Hope?
Yea me too. Don't know what to tink about anything. I hope Amare comes out and scores 50 in game 6. With so many things against them, i have to say, i don't know if they can win two in a row against the Spurs. And i hate the Spurs. I was a fan of the Spurs, but seeing them play, i hate them. As great as Tim Duncan is, i hate him, i hate his "what? me? i didn't touch him" every fucking time, i hate the way Spurs talk to the refs every fucking call and then they say Suns players whine. Yea fucking right!

Frustration
What happened in those last few minutes?  We simply couldn't score.  What was the difference?  No Amare.  In Game 4, in the same situation, two behind the back Nash-to-Amare passes sealed the game.  Without that closer, we just ran out of steam at the end.  I cant applaud the effort of the Suns enough -- they gave it their all with 6 players and just came up short. It truly, truly sucks that we were robbed of a game and possibly the series because of that suspension.  I can only hope that we take it to 7, and Suns fans somehow actually kill Robert Horry with a sonic assault of boos.

Fatigue
I think fatigue definetly was the factor in the end. Plus nobody got going except Nash and Thomas. I wish they played Marion more in the 2nd half..

How about Horry saying Nash flopped in that game 4? He really is a punk isn't he. I wish one of the Suns bodychecks Parker hard man, and then they can talk about playoff fouls.

I was there
Thats right I was there at the game.  I'm just numb now.  To have fought so hard and played so well, only to be beaten kinda makes you feel empty.  The fans did all they could to pump up our boys and the Suns did all they could to play the best they could despite being so undersized.  In the end despite excellent D we just didnt have the Offense we needed to pull it out.

Damn Stu and Stern to the deepest darkest depths of hell.  Mark my words we'll have the last laugh this series.  We'll win game 6 and we'll bring it back home for Game 7.  We aint through yet, not by a long shot.  It'll take alot more than some archaic rule and cheep shots to take this team down.

There, too
It was he most exciting game I've ever been at, and I was at last year's Game 5 against the Clips.  Every fan got his money's worth and more.

The Spurs should be very scared about Amare's "Second Coming" this season.

The System Won
I am very, very proud of how hard the Suns played tonight.

But this was not a victory for the Sours; it was a victory for the System that ALLOWED them the victory.

Let the Sours enjoy the moment...let them pat them selves on the back, as if they had accomplished something.  Let them comment on the win....and let us all remind them:

Not only have you let down your fan base, but by sticking Stern in your pocket, you've let down the NBA, as a whole.

I feel sorry for the true Spurs fans, for they weren't asking to be part of the Sours.

I was there too
I was so proud of the Suns! The crowd gave them the best support of the season and they responded. They dominated the game for 3 quarters and led until less than 3 minutes left in the game.  It was a great game but the loss was heart breaking.

At half time I was a little concerned because they led by only 11 points. From the way the two teams played, the Suns should have led by 20. They were that good. SA could not do anything right.

At the end of the 3rd Q the Suns had a precarious 6 point lead. However, initially they responded well when SA made a few baskets. However, SA caught up and once they saw the light, they were not going to let the tired Suns off the hook.

Some things concerned me.

1.With such a short rotation why did Dantoni not use more of his bench? He has Rose, Pike, Banks. If he had played each of them 2-3 minutes, it would have given the starters rest and they might have pulled it off at the end. Dantoni drives me nuts with his bull headed approach, unwillingness to make adjustments, and banging his head on a door that would never open.  What a waste of money to sign these players and making them sit on the bench even when the starters are absolutely fatigued.

2.Our 6th man of the year is AWOL. What;s happened to LB in this series? He can't even score 10 points, he cannot handle the ball- he turns it over, he cannot make 3-point shots or layups. Tonight especially we needed a big contribution from him and he was the one who turned the ball over with the score tied at 81. He was the only player I was totally frustrated with.

Nash was having difficulty throughout. There were no easy assists, no rest, and the result was lots of turnovers which made the difference in the game, especially in the second half.

Kurt Thomas was phenomenal. It was worth trading for him.  Again, Dantoni inexplicably pulled him out toward the end when the Suns needed to stop the Spurs. The Spurs scored and the Suns lost.

It was a valiant effort by the Suns who were short handed. My hat's off to them. HOwever, this was a game they could have and should have won. Their perimeter defense was another culprit. The Suns fouled on 3-point plays TWICE (once by Nash) and the Spurs made all 6 FT's. The Spurs have suddenly become a very good FT shooting team and that has hurt the Suns. Not only do the Spurs get more foul calls in their favor but they also make the FT's now.

Charles Barkley said even though Stoudemire and Diaw will be back on Fri. this team is so fatigued because of tonight's game that the Suns will not win on Fri. I agree with him. The Spurs did not play their best in the 1st half. I attribute it to the crowd. It was fantastic to be there and cheer on the Suns.  On every possession the Spurs were booed.

When I walking to the arena tonight, I had a feeling that this was the last home game of the season for the Suns. They are likely to lose to the Spurs on Fri. and that will be the end of the season for them. Last year when I went to game 6 against Dallas, I had a very distinct feeling that it was the last game of the season for the Suns and that's what happened.

Hope is gone. Amare and Boris's return will not change the outcome of the series. A robberty was committed and the series was taken away from us.

One sign in the arena read:

N- No
B- Brain
A- Association  (actually I don't remember what A stood for but you get the picture).

I completely agree.

I think you're right
I think it's going to be a close out game on Friday too (for exactly the reasons Barkley stated). The Suns did everything they could, but like Steve Nash says when something doesn't go right, it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe it never will be. That's certainly looking to be the case after three straight years of weird things happening to shut down the season. It has to be frustrating to always be so close, yet so far away, but that seems to be the way it goes with these guys. I really feel bad for all of you fans in Phoenix who have followed the Suns for a lot longer than I have. I hope you do get to see your team win it all someday. You deserve it after what will soon be 40 years of futility.

On a related note, I am seriously considering going to the game on Friday. I think it will be the last time this particular Suns team as presently constructed will play together, unless Robert Sarver is angry enough about how this all turned out to pay the luxury tax and keep the team together. If it does turn out to be the elimination game, the long drive home after the game will help start the "healing", and if not, it would mean I got to see the biggest win of the season. Seems like a great idea, provided I can find something close to a reasonable deal on such short notice.

TexSun
I hope you can go to the game. It may be the last game of the season for the Suns.

Although Amare & Boris will be back, we cannot assume that the Spurs will play at the same level. They will play to win and they will be at home. I just don't see logically how the Suns can win Fri. I hope Dantoni is giving them the day off today (no basketball). They will be traveling of course.

Shame on NBA for destroying the chances of the best team in the league to win the title.

My prediction for game 6: Spurs by 10 to 15 points.

The Suns will be back next season.

by Vash01 on May 17, 2007 9:01 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not going
I thought about it, but I just can't bring myself to do something that in any way supports the Spurs right now. That includes spending money to buy a ticket to one of their games. Besides, I already have too many travel plans coming up in the near future anyway.

Supporting the Spurs has nothing to do with it
I can understand if you're fiscally tied otherwise, but don't use that as an excuse....you might as well just say "I have a cold" ;)

You wouldn't be paying the Spurs;  you'd be supporting the Suns.  Shit, the Spurs already have too much of your money (I'm pretty sure Texas is rather heavily subsidizing their sports arenas).

We saw something amazing
Going into this game, I had already resigned myself to the sad fact that the Spurs were probably going to win.  With two of their players out (under questionable circumstances), I figured the Suns would just let this one go, allow their starters to rest up and wait to come back in force for games six and seven.

Much to my surprise, the Suns had a different plan.  They decided to play their heart out and hold on to a chance of winning despite the odds, and they almost took the W.

It's been my opinion since the playoffs got underway that the only two serious contenders for the championship are Phoenix and San Antonio.  They seem to be the best two teams in the Western conference (which pretty much puts them in the top two slots in the NBA).

This series, regardless of the outcome, is likely to be the most evenly matched, most challenging and most entertaining series found in this year's playoffs.  I have little doubt that whoever wins this will ultimately walk away with championship rings.

Personally, I'd prefer it be the Suns.  It is my hope that the Suns are able to muster up the heart and spirit that they showed this evening on the court, and have enough energy left to draw upon to take the wins on Friday and Sunday.  It won't be easy, and it'll take everything they've got.

It's just a little discouraging that in addition to the fact that they are playing a very good team, they are being burdened with so much BS that makes their journey all the more difficult.  The Spurs are not playing fair.  The NBA seems to be doing everything in their power to reward the underhanded practices of the Spurs and hurt the Suns.  And so, despite being close in ability, the Suns are at an unfair disadvantage.  If they do manage to take this series, it'll show just how amazing this ball club really is.

Honestly, I couldn't help but to think that if I was some guy way down the bench on reserve, I'd be pleading with the coaching staff to be allowed into the game, just so I could "accidentally" snap Duncan's leg or arm.  Sure, give me a T.  Eject me from the game.  End my career.  But at least I'd be bring a more level playing field back to the series.  Of course, the Suns would never do that; they're a better group of people than that.  And that is, in part, why I love them so much.

It's 2006 all over again
I didn't necessarily think the Suns would win tonight, but I did think they would make a dog fight of it, which is exactly what they did. We watched them do it last year against LA, when they became only the 8th team ever to recover from being down 1-3. That's the reason I watch this team. They may not always win, and they may never win a championship, but you can guarantee they're going to make the best fight they can while doing it with absolute class all along the way.

by TexSUN on May 17, 2007 3:56 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fast start
I thought before the game that the Suns will have a fast start (meaning lead after the 1st Q) but they would eventually lose to SA. Interestingly, the Suns led most of the game and only lost in the last minute (actually they were outscored in the last 4-5 min). They had a real chance to win. Hopefully that will give them the confidence to - not just put up a good fight  but WIN the game.

The series is over for me, no matter what happens. My dish just went out, and I won't have reception again until Tuesday. So I'll miss Game 6, and Game 7 too if there is one. Pretty much fits this week I guess.

TexSun,

Can you watch the game at a friend's house or a restaurant/bar something like that? The playoffs are on everywhere. It will be a great game on Fri. I hope you get to see it.

Maybe
I hate watching games in restaurants, and all of my family and friends are Mavericks fans. I don't have the heart to make them sit through a Suns-Spurs game. It's no big deal. I can download and watch the game after the fact if it turns out to be a good one.

shameful
I agree w/ Dan and Vash on the awol LB and the poor rotation from Coach D earlier in the game. Heck, throughout the year.

You can't play those guys now if you haven't played them during the season. I think you will see a different mindset from the coach next year. Someone - maybe Big Jerry - will explain things to him.

But the Suns blew this game. They shot for crap from the 3 pt line. If the shot their normal 40% they win the game. In the first half if they make those shots they are up by 20 at half time and they would have been able to handle the late surge.

This was a very winable game and they blew it. I am more disappointed in the Suns right now then I have been all year...

I have not given up hope however. The Suns certainly can and should win in SA on Friday and can and should win a game 7 at home. If they do, this dirk-job will be forgotten and they will be back on the road to the prize. If not, this game will be the one where we blew our shot.

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 8:33 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't agree
the suns didn't blow their shot here...they were playing 6 guys the entire game and two of their best guys were missing.  See what would have happened if Duncan and Ginobili were out for the Spurs and the Suns would have had a full roster.  I can guarantee you the Spurs wouldn't have been within three.

I don't blame any of the guys playing.  They didn't choke.  They got tired.

by Dan on May 17, 2007 9:09 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

1st Half
My point is that if they show up and make their shots in the 1st half they are up by 20+ at half time.

I agree it was a lot to ask but there's no reason for this team to not step up and make those open looks and put the game away when they had a chance.

I agree for the most part, most of them played hard and well. But they had their foot and the throat and didn't stomp down.

The reason I favored the Suns all along w/ b/c of their depth. B/c guys like LB and Bell could go off for 25+ points on a night when Amare wasn't there or was in foul trouble or whatever. Clearly, the Spurs w/o TD or Parker or Manu would have been hosed but that's exactly why the Suns are the better team. Depth.

But they had a chance in the 1st half and blew it. I do give the Spurs credit for making their shots late in the game and for their defense as well. But the Suns blew their chance and they had a big one.

We have seen this team come out blazing (60%+) too many times to think they couldn't or shouldn't have done it in this big game. I don't think you can win a series like that but you can win one game and this was it and it just wasn't there when it needed to be.

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 9:21 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

there's also this from Steve
"We were short-handed. You can look at it anyway you want, and I've definitely been self-critical the last half hour. But it was a lot to ask, I guess when you look back. We needed more out of each of us and we just didn't have it."

by Dan on May 17, 2007 10:15 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is the money quote for me
"We needed more out of each of us and we just didn't have it"

Nash isn't a guy to make excuses. Hitting 50% in the 1st half would have won this game and there was NO reason that shouldn't have happened. Guys just didn't step up for whatever reason.

At the end of the game I am fine blaming fatigue and generally not having an inside presense. But the 1st half? After getting that great play on defense from everyone they needed to make a few more shots and they didn't. And there's no viable excuse for that. That's a shame and a lost opportunity. So be it.

The Suns will still win this series!

I am looking forward to battling my daughter who is a Utah fan (she's only 9) b/c she was born in Salt Lake. I even made the mistake of taking her to a Suns/Jazz game during the reg season and she cheered for the Jazz!!!! I was so ashamed. I called her a traitor :) We are having fun w/ that and I am looking foward to more of it in the next round.

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 10:28 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Optimism
srp, I commend your optimism but IMHO it is a bit unrealistic. The Spurs will go for blood (could be literally) in game 6 and they will be at home. The Suns are exhausted. Amare is always a double edged weapon.

Can the Suns win game 6?- yes
Will they? - No

by Vash01 on May 17, 2007 10:54 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hate being wrong
What can I say? I hate being wrong and I have said all along that the Suns are the better team and can / should be SA. Not going to change that now despite your pessimism :)

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 1:10 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think you're wrong
I just don't see the Suns (other than Amare and Boris) having anything left tomorrow night, either emotionally or physically after coming so close to pulling off the upset, and falling short. Amare and Boris can't win the game by themselves.

I also think the Spurs are going to lose too--in the WCF to the Jazz. That's right, I said it. The Spurs have accumulated way too much bad karma for it not to catch up to them eventually. This will be like the Mavericks last year--they'll beat the Suns in six, but then pull a major choke job against what should be an inferior team. Besides, the Jazz are sitting on their laurels getting rested while this whole mess plays out. Jazz-Detroit in the finals. Maybe Utah finally gets a ring.

by TexSUN on May 17, 2007 1:22 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Utah
If the Spurs make it to the WCF, I will root for the Jazz- a team that I never liked. That's how much I despise SA. I am thinking that Spurs must feel this is their last chance to win a ring again. They are getting old and other teams are getting better.

I think Utah CAN beat the Spurs in WCF (if the league calls the game fairly). Howevr, I think they will lose to Detroit in the NBA finals (assuming that Detroit makes it there, past LeBaron et al.). If it's Cleveland representing the eastern conference, I think the western champ will win. It better be Utah and not the dirty Spurs.

by Vash01 on May 17, 2007 2:14 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Utah has got to be hoping for Suns
The Spurs match up much tougher for the Jazz then we do. W/ Duncan in the middle to cover Boozer and their solid defense the Jazz won't be able to score enough to win and their defense isn't all that great. Worse then the Suns - so they won't be able to stop the Spurs either.

Against the Suns the Jazz at least have some size and can play up their athletic and long guys and they have to think we are a softer defensive team.

Either way, the Jazz won't have much of a chance though.

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 2:59 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agree
This was a very winnable game for the Suns. They led by 5, with less than 4 minutes to go. They had been responding to SA's shots throughout the evening but then everything changed.

The Spurs made 3 point shots late in the game. The Suns did not. That was the difference. Bowen's 3 point shot with the game tied at 81 put a lot of pressure on the Suns. Steve did add 2 points but he cannot do everything. The team has to step up and it did not. LB has been the biggest disappointment to me this series. An announcer on the radio said he seems to have reverted to what he was 2 years ago- and what a time to do that!

Fatigue was certainly a factor but they knew what was at stake. HOwever, I am not going to be too harsh on the Suns for this game. The odds against them were so high that the fact they came to within 3 points of tying the game shows the character of this team. They just need to learn how to win close games against top teams. If they miraculously win this series, they will have to do it again against Utah who is playing very well.

by Vash01 on May 17, 2007 9:08 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Amazing game
I have to say, despite the outcome this was the most enjoyable game I have ever seen. The crowd and the Suns were amazing. Everyone put a heart in the game and the result was a high quality, entertaining game. The Spurs - for once- did not try something dirty.  HOwever, the damage was already done.

The Suns must regroup and win game 6 in SA. This team has come a long way. There is no stopping now.

Go Suns!

I bet it was
Glad you had the chance to be there (although I think you jinxed the team and should have taken up my offer! :)

The best regular season game I have been at was the loss to the Wizards to break the streak on that day when they had to travel all day to get back from Denver in the snow storm.

Wizards
I was at that game too but I hated watching Arenas tie the game in regulation, particularly after hearing his braggadocios. Disgusting. My favorite regular season game at home was when the Suns beat the Spurs by double digits (since we are on the Spurs right now). My favorite road game- a tie between the Mavs 2 OT on 3/14 and NJ 2OT early in the season.

A different tactic
I know the Suns wanted to win the game last night and all, but if they had played Burke and others more and not played 45 plus minutes a piece, they would have more in the tank to hopefully beat SA on Friday.  I am just hoping the extended minutes don't backfire on their attempt to win Game 6.

by TwinnerA on May 17, 2007 10:27 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

No more Burke!
I sort of agree but Burke is a stiff. When he was in the game he was HORRIBLE. He was clueless on defense and was a useless on offense. I know we like the guy but there's a reason he's on the end of the bench.

I do think they should have played Jalen Rose at the end of the 3rd qtr and early in the 4th to get Nash about 5 minutes of rest. He's got the playoff experience and has the proven ability at least to step up in big situations.

Before the game I was concerned that the worst outcome would be a close loss where the Suns main guys played a lot of hard minutes and that's what happened.

On the flip side - Amare is TOTALLY rested and can and should play a lot. If he steps up the Suns will win in Game 6.

by Phoenix Stan on May 17, 2007 10:33 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nash
From a scientific standpoint, Nash's body should have blown apart into tiny dust molecules 2 years ago.  How he keeps going at this pace is pretty rediculous, so I wouldn't worry about him being tired.  Trust me, I'm a Spurs fan and would love for him to be tired, but he'll come out with plenty of energy like he always does.  So annoying...

I don't worry so much about Nash breaking down physically as I do about him finally becoming discouraged after so many years of pouring his heart into it, and getting oh so close, only to have some weird freak thing happen to derail it. This is the third year in a row something bizarre has happened to seriously hinder the Suns' chances. The guy is mentally (and physically) tough as nails, but I can't imagine he isn't wondering somewhere in the back of his mind if maybe it just isn't meant to be. I know I sure as heck would be thinking that by now. Any reasonable human being probably would. Oh well... At least he gets to do something fun for a living I guess (not to mention getting paid quite handsomely for it), even if it ends in disappointment every year.

Nash
He belongs in the NBA Hall of Fame, championship ring or not.

Popovich belongs in the Hall of Shame, as one sign read yesterday.

I feel that as long as he has Amare on the team, there is a decent chance of winning a title. When Amare sets a goal he makes it. He is determined to bring a championship to the Suns. If it does not happen this year, it is bound to happen some day. I just hope Nash is still on this team when it happens.

Amare
You know, a week ago, getting rid of Amare and his "me first", half-cocked, "speak first, think later" attitude was starting to sound more and more appealing. But now, I'm not so sure. If the Suns lose this series, Amare is going to come back next year IRATE that something he did caused the Suns to miss out on a championship. Instead of being obsessed with his own path to greatness, he's going to be so focused on winning a ring it won't even be funny. If Sarver can hang in there one more year with the luxury tax, then he'll likely get his ring next year, especially if the Suns can draft well. Of course, that's assuming the USAC ceiling doesn't come crashing down in the final seconds of Game 7 in the Finals or something. With all the freak things that have happened in the past three years, nothing would surprise me anymore.

Team
They should definitely keep this team for next year. They will be a year older and ready to win the 'prize'.

Yeah...
Well, Burke really stunk it up when he was out there, so that's why they couldn't use him more. You can blame Mike D'Antoni all you want about not using more of his guys during the regular season, but the truth is, I doubt even he would have thought the Suns would have a realistic chance against the Spurs without Amare and Boris both, even if Burke had played in every game this season.

I thought the Suns really lost momentum when Burke came in the game, and unfortunately, that may have been the main reason they lost. They were well on their way to going up 20, then Burke came in and everything got mucked up. I also agree with you, though, that the heavy minutes are going to take their toll in the next game. I think the Spurs will close them out on Friday because of that reason. However, I don't blame D'Antoni or the team for trying their best to win it all. Even if I knew for a fact ahead of time that the Suns would lose Game 5 and that the fatigue from that effort would also kill their chances of winning Game 6, I still would have wanted them to play the way they did. We always teach our kids to do the very best you can, and live with whatever consequences that brings. The Suns did that last night. It just didn't work out for them, but I'm really proud of them for giving it their best shot.

Burke
Dantoni did well to take him out quickly. However, he should still have tried Jalen.

one point of disagreement
But what do you expect?  The Suns were basically playing 6 players against the Spurs' 10 players -> This is D'Antoni's choice! We have some really good people on the bench...

I was in the arena last night, and it was just amazing.... The Fans did all they could!

I am highly disappointed by Barbosa once again, he started the 2nd half o/4 from the field.. horrible

The Matrix was amazing, so was Crazy Eyes, MVP did great, Raja was awesome defensivly...

I think you can pretty much bank on....
....the Suns winning game six in SA. Just a feeling I have. And I'm actually a Clipper fan.

Warrior fan Believes in the Suns
First time poster..from OAK-TOWN
As a Warriors fan and having witness the magic that blessed us this year, I am cheering for the Suns to beat the evil empire of the Spurs and NBA front office. "We believe" that the Suns will overcome this highway robbery and somehow find a way to beat the monster. Many of us in Warriors land who relish the underdog role in the 1st round vs. Dallas are cheering loud and proud for you guys in the bay area. You guys are now the darlings of the NBA, a martyr to fight against dictator Stern and we hope you guys can TAKE THEM DOWN HARD. DO IT!! DO IT for the kids so they can remember the 07 Suns that fought against all odds to reach success. It'll be a great story to tell for the ages.
one more sidenote, i would rather watch "Sisters of the ScissorsPants (or whatever that movie is called) then to sit watch a Jazz/Spurs series.

THE DUBs got your back, playa!

Thanks so much!
This is awesome to be getting so much support from other teams' fans. Thanks for taking time to post some much-needed words of encouragement! (BTW, I thought the "Nellie Beer Rule" was kind of dumb too--it's not like the guy hasn't been sipping beer at post-game press conferences for years without anyone batting an eye).

Man, How I wish
a Warriors/ Suns conference final. 7 games, each game going 130pts+, now that would be a series (although, i think the Ws would be no match to the Suns' balanced lineup)
I can see a lot of similarities between the Warriors and the Suns, especially in offense. The Spurs is the one team that the Warriors had the most struggle with in the regular season. So i hope the Suns don't make the same mistake as the Ws and get too 3-happy. It killed us in the Jazz series. You guys have a much better inside game than us in Amare so he needs to get the ball more than any other player on the court. It will be fist pumping every time he dunks one over an Elson or an Oberto.

The "Nellie Beer Rule" is great. Instead of bring a beer with him to the press conf., he know gets loaded right BEFORE it which makes for some pretty good press quotes. Just go back to watch his press conf. on the last game of the Jazz series on NBATV, he is visibly drunk and mistakenly address the Jazz as the losing side.

Warriors fan
It's great to hear such positive thoughts. Sometimes we Suns fans get too down on our team. I hope the Suns shock everyone and win the next two games. What a poetic justice that would be!

Cuban
I read on AOL Fanhouse that Mark Cuban wrote in his blog that he wouldn't vote to change the rule about leaving the bench during an "altercation".  What a joke.  He would the one whining the longest and hardest if the same thing as happened to the Suns happened to 2 Dallas players and they were suspended.

by TwinnerA on May 17, 2007 12:11 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Cuban
I am shocked that Cuban sided with the NBA. I thought he would be the first one to side with the Suns.

by Vash01 on May 17, 2007 2:20 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not.
That answer he gave is vintage Mark Cuban. Read his blog entry--he goes into more details about why he feels the way he does. He actually makes some pretty good points, believe it or not. (I still disagree with him, but at least he explains his argument well).

by TexSUN on May 17, 2007 2:28 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think his reason is twofold
Or maybe even more-fold. :-)
  1.  He likes to be different and just agreeing with what everyone else is saying wouldn't be different.
  2.  He knows if the Suns had a full team they would have beat the Spurs and won a ring and he doesn't want to see Steve win a ring.
His comment talking about whether Jason Terry threw a punch was stupid.  Everyone could see he threw a punch.  Cuban's argument at the time was that Terry's hand only moved 6 inches and that can't constitute a punch.  So even in an iron-clad rule like throwing a punch, there is still room for interpretation.

I wouldn't put too much into what he says on his blog...it's just Cuban being Cuban...

by Dan on May 17, 2007 2:27 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good point about Terry
Good point about Terry. That part of his argument was stupid. But allowing the refs to use replays in certain situations is a great idea. And if the league had taken better control of what was clearly a deteriorating situation to begin with, it never would have got to the point it did.

on cuban
Let me say from being in Dallas the last year, I've talked to many basketball fans of the Mavs. Not one has said anything other than it was a mistake to not keep Nash. Obviously in hind sight this is true, and I even think Cuban had fair points about Nash, and getting older, etc. It just happens, that Nash is a competitor of a rare breed, and has trained very hard, and eats very healthily. My point is this, I'm sure Cuban is sick to death of hearing about "the Nash mistake", and having the Suns win would make this issue in the spotlight again. I hear about STeve Nash so much on the Mavs radio news, you'd think he still was on this team. Great respect for him, nice to see. Anyways, I don't waste my time with Cuban anymore, there's too many intelligent comments from people to read for me to look into his comments anymore.

unfair
If one would judge a Spurs fan on what he says on this blog, you would think most of them were idiots!

I mean, there are posts here by Spurs fans, that are written by morons. By the way english is not my native language so coming from me, that means something i guess.

Bla bla bla
The Spurs are boring dirty players, they complain as much or more than any other team and the Suns did get screwed by Stu Jackson and David Stern.  The fans, players, everyone knows it knows it.

GO SUNS!!!
