Late Night News

A few late-breaking tidbits:

  • East Valley Tribune is reporting that the Suns will re-sign Sean Marks tomorrow. Marks will get a one-year deal at the veteran's minimum.

  • Paul Coro at AZCentral reports that the Suns got their first victory in the Steve Kerr era--sorta. The summer league Suns beat Detroit 85-76 in "an unofficial scrimmage in an empty arena" Tuesday afternoon. More important than the victory is news that Marcus Banks continues to have the hot hand, with 6-7 shooting, and Otis George continues to impress. The Suns are looking for leadership from Banks.

  • Someone on Phxsuns.net posted some really nice observations from the Suns-Cavs game from the perspective of someone who was actually there sitting courtside. Sounds like it was a lot more fun to see live than it was on NBA.com.

  • The salary cap has been set at $55,630,000 for the 2007-08 season. The new number is a $2.5 million increase over the prior amount. The most important number for Suns fans is the luxury tax level. This will be set at $67.87 million, up from $65.42 million.

  • ESPN reports that Marco Belinelli has been "sensational" in summer league play thus far. This news will no doubt leave fans wondering what might have been had the Suns had better luck in attempting to trade up on draft day.

Belinelli
I have had a chance to watch (in person and on tv) Belinelli quite often over the past 3 years. He's a great talent. He's fast, athletic and a great shooter (especially coming out of picks). He's got the quickest release I can remember and basically he can take a shot in any situation.
He tends to trust his outside shot too much(and sometimes it's a bit streaky and he's not willing to beat his man and go for the rim as much as he should. On defence he's not there yet but if he works hard (and especially last year he was not...) has great margin for improvement. I really would have loved to have him in a Suns uniform...

Sounds like Michael Redd
or maybe a Ben Gordon type or player...

If so, I am not sure if that's a great fit in our system w/ Steve driving the ball and trying to get guys open looks.

Marks
I can't believe there's not a better big man out there then Marks. He must be doing more in practice and in the locker room then we know and maybe they are thinking this year he will have more experience on the team and step up and be the next Burke. Oh, the irony of stepping up into Burke's shoes...

Why isn't this guy playing in Vegas btw? If he wants to make the team and get some floor time you would think he should be there w/ Banks and Tucker.
