Introducing a New Writer at Bright Side of the Sun

Those of you who have been around here for a while remember the good old days when this site was run by a life-long Phoenix Suns fan who actually grew up and lived in Phoenix. Today, I am pleased to announce that we once again have a local voice to go with my own view from afar. The guy I am about to introduce is already familiar to the majority of regular readers here. Re-introducing srp, who will now be joining me on the main page. He will be helping out some with game threads and recaps, as well as providing a perspective that only someone who enjoys replaying and analyzing little bits and pieces of every game can. He is also a season ticket holder who can give us the occasional first hand report from being at the game. Please welcome srp to the main page at Bright Side of the Sun.

Hi srp
Glad to see this, you'll do great. Always a good read (your comments). This seems like a good time to put out a quick wish list, or at least one thing. It's probably unlikely to happen, I'm not sure where our site is on the most visited vs other suns sites, but if we could get you or TexSun to interview a player every once in a while, even if just an email interview to start, that'd be pretty cool!

Just a thought, :-)

Congrats!

I've asked
Unfortunately, the Suns are very loathe to let in "outsiders" that aren't credentialed members of the media. I've been told it has a lot to do with the Suns being so successful, hence so much demand on the players' time already. I'm pretty cool with that, honestly. I'd hate to think that taking time to answer an e-mail from me played a role in the Suns' losing a game.

If the opportunity ever comes up though, we'll be sure to take advantage of it.

Thanks jasonsuns1
I am not sure we can swing a player interview but perhaps we can practice on each other :)

Hey thanks!
I will try and live up to the high standards set by TexSun and even that blog traitor Dan who left us for a gig with the Suns....

Welcome SRP
I have enjoyed your posts in the past.  the recaps are especially useful for one such as me who only gets to see 15 or so games a year on TV.

Good luck.  Perhaps you can tell us why they don't play hard all of the time.

Thanks again!
Why they don't play hard all the time? I don't know but here's my theory.

First, remember that the Spurs and Pistons typically go through a mid season "slump" as they save themselves for the playoff's. No one seems to mind. If you look both the Spurs and Pistons have dropped some games to bad teams. No panic. Of course those teams have proven that they can in fact turn it on and can in fact win a ring. So I get that we aren't them. But clearly this year's team is doing things differently that are more focused on the playoff's (see my posts on the Sun's half court offense).

Next, I really do think there's just a human element here. Think about it. How geared up were we the collective fans for last night's game versus the Laker's game. I wasn't nearly as interested. Is it fair to expect these guys to bring their A game each night for 82 games? There's plenty of times when the B or C game is enough but if the other team is totally focused and we aren't then we might lose. And since we have a target on our backs we are getting every team's A game every night.

How's that?

Sounds good, but...
How about the pro athlete's competitive pride?  Shawn has to be embarrassed.

I don't condone it
I am just saying...all the games this guy has played and all the games where he has played his ass off. I don't think its the end of the world if you aren't up for a game against the T-wolves.

I don't think btw that he should get extended at anything more then about $12-$14m for no more then 4 yrs. I think he wants a 6 year max deal. No way he gets that.

But this game is best just forgotten. Its meaningless in the big picture imho.

No big deal?
Man, if I messed up some project here at work because I couldn't 'get up for it', it'd take me the better part of the year to get myself back into the boss's good graces.  And Marion probably makes more in a game than I do in a year.

Every single day?
Come on. Seriously. You bring your A game to work every single day? Not just on the big days.

If that's really true you need to send me your resume :)

'A' game
I could bring my 'A; game three times a week, 3 hours each for five months out of the year for $18 million, Sure.  Guaranteed.
