Blogger MVP/ROY Rankings; Amare Gets Player of the Week; Shaq Practices

The Blogger MVP/Rookie of the Year rankings that I mentioned in the comments to last night's game thread are up at Hardwood Paroxysm. That's sunofa's site for those of you who were reading Bright Side of the Sun during the summer. And in case you missed the earlier announcement, Amare has been named Player of the Week and Shaq had his first practice today. "Shaquille O'Neal is the new axis that the Suns rotate around", says Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic. Fortunately, it sounds like former axis Steve Nash and the other Suns are just fine with that (giddy even), and Shaq's statements that he's planning to just be a "big role player" can't hurt. Coro's article also says the Suns used the practice to "start over on teaching the playbook", and also to shoot a new pre-game intro. Somewhere JSun is rejoicing.

In other news, it sounds like Latrell Sprewell is having trouble feeding his family after all.

well deserved!! The biggest benefit from the trade may easily be the shaq-amare motivation thing,

if we had 2 big men under the basket, skinner and shaq, I feel much better about amare taking some threes than earlier, his shooting form is smooth,

I am rejoicing
You beat me to the link, though.  The happiest citizen on Planet Orange, though, is JSun2.

He plaed in his first basketball league at the YMCA.  We just ended Saturday.  The highlight of the experience, though, was shopping for his new sneakers.  Who would've ever thought that 90 minutes and $20 at Payless would've brought such joy to these two Suns fans?

Anyway, he eventually settled on black and gold "SHAQ" shoes, because, after trying on many different shoes, he felt they helped him to jump the highest of all the shoes.  JSun now has a new intro which now includes the name of the dude on his shoes.

Congrats to JSun and JSun2
I know how great these things can be. Last season my 8 y/o caught two line drives and had a great tag out in one innning while playing third base. He was walking on air for about two weeks!

Our Achievements Pale in Comparison to That
JSun and JSun2 are simply happy when the team runs in the proper direction for offense and defense, our players occassionally dribbles the ball (as opposed to picking it up and running with it), our players sometimes stand in front of the man they are supposed to defend, and we get a few basekts.

Snagging drives and making tag outs are a whole different league.  Which shoes was your boy wearing?  Did they make a difference?

lol!
Its all about the shoes isn't it. I have had many shoe store conversations about which shoes are faster. And seem to recall a discussion about needing a haircut in order improve performance. That's called a performance enhancing cut and so far it hasn't been banned.

In this case though it was all about the new glove.

Give it a few more years and the accomplishments increase in skill level but the joy really is the same from day one.

Jsun
congrats, sounds very cool, my kids are still too young yet for sports....but its coming :-) I still think back on some of those times as a kid and feel great. Two in particular, 1 in baseball, I was an ok to good fielder, and a good to very good hitter (without power). It was a big game, and we were facing the strongest, best pitcher in the league. No one on our team had even a hit against him, I'm pretty sure no one had a home run off him that year so far, I was at bat, I took a cut (chicken little style....wild hack...not looking probably) and it sailed 40 feet over the centerfield fence. Pretty awesome, 2 in basketball, when I was ten, my team was playing in a big game, my team had the best record in the league if I remember correctly (10-11yr old). We were down by 1 point with 2 seconds left but were taking the ball in from the other side of the court (no time out half court rule for us I guess). We thought we'd lost, a long pass by a strong kid was thrown to me, I was shocked to get the ball under the basket at a bad angle, I shot and missed. I was devastated. But, I played in a league with my older brother and older kids 14-15 yr olds later that yr because they were short a player. And got revenge, we were down by 2, there was a three point line, the team captain knew I was a good shooter from the outside, they correctly predicted no one would be guarding me so far out, I got the ball with a second or 2 left and nailed a three to win the game...talk about sailing on clouds for a while... Sports and my dad coaching me was easily some of the best memories of my life!
