Dirk dirks it no more

That's it. I am officially retiring the use of "dirk" as a verb to signify:
Failure to lead your team. Choke. see also Dallas Mavericks playoffs 2006, 2007.

Hat tip to Odenized - the ruler of all NBA video clips...

To dirk something now means holy crap clutch shot. He's done it to the Suns enough times. But to do it here in a game like this...wundervoll mein Herr

the Mavs (who I still insist aren't better then they were two years ago) are a very dangerous 7th seed. I think for Suns fans the 3rd seed is looking a bit nicer if we can pull it off...

Oh yes, not a bad shot by Mr. Williams either.

I Think the Mavs have woken up recently,
cool stuff, just adds to the playoff excitement. I agree on Dirk, still though, it sounds sound good....he dirked it...got a certain ring to it...like hack a shaq.

I'd hold off...
...on re-defining anything until the playoffs.  I'm not saying he won't continue to be clutch, but it bears reminding that this is regular season MVP type behavior so far.

you could redefine the verb to dirk
as meaning "to completely choke and disappear when it really counts"; or to mean "to completely suffer when your best friend and best point guard in the league relocates one time zone"

How does one conjugate that verb?  It's irregular, for sure.

Agreed

The Mavs in the regular season > the Mavs in the postseason.

They're comebacks against us and this Utah game were exciting, but are just not clutch enough for me.

Trend spotting
I am telling you my friends..that team is on a roll and is going to make someone's life difficult. Hopefully the Lakers. Buy Mavs stock.

and short Spurs of course

we'll see...
Our meltdown had more to do with us than Dallas.  They didn't have an especially spectacular 4th quarter, we just played blowfully.

and wrt Utah.. well they're not a good road team, and it still came down to the final shot.  How often does Dirk make that shot??  Let's just say he was due.

They have the potential to cause trouble, but I'm not sure Dallas is truly ready yet to go deep in the playoffs, even if they do put up a good fight.

Yep.

Clear thinking as always, Pliny.

Phoenix Stan
Much love man... here is something else to back what ya said here from 82games.com and who the top players in the league are at being clutch this year.

Also encourage everyone to check out the other stuff out there as well... but only when you have a LOT of time on your hands... you can get lost in stats on there for days.

Definitely!
But the suns didn't support me with their clutch play against Dallas! http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/story/2008/3/23/34429/6027 Roland Beech of 82games emailed me back. He said the clutch stats were too small a sample to be trusted seriously.

try that again

Judging by what I've seen of him in games
Every laker game I hate him when he needs to get the tie but every gamewinner he tried against us I just knew they wouldn't go (and he would reward me confidence with airball) hes just not that clutch to me. Now Nash scares the crap out of me in fourth quarter clutch time. Dirk not so much.
