Suns Eliminate Warriors: 122 - 116
Some games are knock down drag out back and forth battles between two teams that are fighting and scratching and clawing for every possession. Those games usually come down to the team that wants it just a little bit more.
This wasn't that game.
This was the opposite. This was a game between two teams determined to phone it in until the final few minutes when the Suns remembered that they really in fact did want to win and the Warriors after getting a boost of insanity from their bench and Stone Cold S-Jax in the 3rd remembered how they started the game - planning their summer.
Notables:
Grant Hill came out firing early and ended up torquing his man parts. The early word is that its not bad and that he will likely sit out the final game and be ready for Game 1. Here's to Grant's groin and its everlasting health and prosperity
LB and Boris both played well...kind of
LB continues to show his ability to sometimes hit a big shot (his 3 at the end of the game was the nail in the Warrior's playoff hopes) along with his blazing speed and Brazilian style defense.
Boris did play harder then his stat line would indicate. But he was TOTALLY bailed out by his little buddy when he drove the lane and instead of going through an out of position rotating S-Jax to at least draw a foul he dished to LB who hit the aforementioned big 3. I think a little dinner at Coup des Tartes is in order.
Baron Davis was benched in the second half. My guess is he was poaching Nellie's beer and got busted with his hand in the cooler.
At the end of the game when the Suns D needed to really step up guess who was on the bench. The Big Diesel....
When I turned on the game about 8 minutes into the first quarter (Tivo ate my first quarter!) and saw the Warriors twin towers on the floor I thought I was in bizarro world. Nellie looked like he had already thrown in the towel and was playing around for next year...hmmm, I wonder what our team would look like with two big guys on the floor at once playing D and grabbing rebounds..nah, just kidding
The Suns blew their chance to stomp on the Warriors necks out of the half and put the game into victory cigar mode...and blew that with a 19 point 327 turnover performance in the 3rd. Perhaps Nelie's beer was actually poached by The Gorilla whom Nellie mistook for Baron at a glance and The Gorilla took the pilfered brew to the Suns...its just a theory but I think it has merit
MV Steve looked pissed in the fourth and willed his team to victory. He was 1 rebound away from the triple double and took a huge charge on Ellis on a crucial late possession. His shot wasn't there but his leadership and iron Candadian will was. Good thing too.
Despite being a defensive liability, the Big Shaqtus played tough and continued to show why he's THE SWEATIEST MAN ALIVE with 19 points and 15 rebounds and a near death blow to an unfortunate denzian of the court-side seats. That near miss must surely have resulted in a diaper change for someone.

third
One thing about the new software for live blogging. Until last week, I was able to re-read the liveblogging on the morning when I missed the game during the night.
Now, it seems that liveblogging is exclusive for ... liveblogging! I mean that the discussion is too long, too disarticulated to be read after the game. Therefore, I have to rely on the recap only, and I miss the reading of the "old-school live blogging"!
nb: I didn't understand the reference on the Coup des Tartes, except that it's a French restaurant.
nb2: the french seems to block ! which Suns was blocked by Pietrus?

You know what
by RealTangiblesGuy on Apr 15, 2008 3:27 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
different tools
My critics concerned the way I used the live blogging personnaly: as a specific tool very interesting for people not allowed to watch the game and even not able to participate in the live blogging because of the time lag. It was thus a kind of "real-time details of the games you could have with some delay" (not very clear...). it's just different tools.
This utilization is now more difficult with the new software. But I think that bringing back the old school live blogging could be quite frustrating for people enjoying live blogging in "normal" conditions: that is during the game, watching it on TV (or internet in Live) and sharing their thoughts.
Therefore, I don't militate for a "back to the past" (anyway, we are all kind of "conservative" when we used to love someting and it suddenly change... In a few days we'll be used to the new way). But I militate for ever more detailed recap (it's a longer and tougher job for those writing the recaps, but think that you bring some happiness to a poor lost french on the other side of the world! very motivating, isn't it?)

Thanks for the feedback
Here's the deal - we can have a more focused live blog but it means rejecting most of the comments and just having the live blogger...blog and be very selective about allowing comments.
Its the difference between game blogging from a blogger or game chat amoung fans.
Its something ZF have discussed and haven't really figured out yet.
Oh, and the Coup de Tartes reference is b/c Boris needs to buy LB dinner (a fine French dinner of course and this is fine food) b/c LB helped him by making that shot.
I have to say, it must be a great time to be a French basketball fan. TONS of good players. Pietrus, Petro, Turiaff (LOVE HIM), and of course Parker and Diaw. And then also that young kid in Seattle...Gelebale?? And I think there's one or two more I might be missing. That's a pretty strong showing in the NBA. Right up there with Spain, Argentina and the Serbs/Croats/Slovenians.

Part of it was
[1] We didn't have a careful liveblogger like TexSUN or Chboddis who notes times, scores and important behind-the-box-score details
and
[2] We had much more participation with the liveblog software than we normally have in the normal blog thread, partially this is due to increased exposure.
Putting those two things together produces the chat soup we had.

Chat vs. Live blog
The concerns I'm reading though, are germaine to what I was trying to address when I posted "On Liveblogging" in the Diaries.
What's the consensus on what the liveblog should be? If it's democratized to the point where over say, 5 people, are given unfettered access, then yes, it becomes "chat soup" because of the volume of comments. And if sports-bar type conversation among fans is the goal, then, hooray! Success!
But if you're looking for play-by-play with commentary from a moderator or two (with limited comments), then I can see how the "old school" liveblogging is the preferred format.
And I'm sure there's a middle ground here that I'm missing, but those seem to be the two liveblog schools of thought.
I'm a "Less Chat, More Moderation" kind of guy myself, but that's because I enjoy being the guy calling the game. (See that? One liveblogging session and I'm already drunk with power.) I also enjoy reading funny and insightful commentary, as opposed to the "diarrhea of the keyboard" that many sports fans/chatters display when they're online.
What are everyone else's thoughts?

Experimentation
In a perfect world, we will figure out how to have both game chat and game blogging...but the software doesn't allow for unmoderated chat at this time. I suppose we could run both at the same time but we would need someone to both moderate the chat to at least provide admin control and someone else to live blog...let's see how it develops and what the feedback is after the next few games.

Perhaps
we leave it up to the guy that moderates since their the ones taking on the responsibility and putting in the little extra effort.
If they want a work of art when their finished, cool. If the want a free-for-all with the opposing fans, cool.
I think maybe the variety could be better than either alone.

#4
- Clinch No. 4 seed with win and Spurs loss.
- Clinch No. 5 seed with win and Rockets loss."
Why the hell did Nelson rest Baron Davis for the entire second half - admittedly the Warriors did play a hell of a lot better without him on the floor, but resting him the whole half?
by dang on Apr 15, 2008 7:01 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Baron played like shit
And he had a HUGE Birthday party the night before.
Basically, he put his 29th Birthday ahead of the team.
Loser.

Stuff
Also, does anyone realize that the Suns/Blazers game is the last game (actually Sonics/Warriors is the last but that game is meaningless) to take place on Wednesday night? Therefore, several seedings/matchups will be waiting on a Suns win or loss. Would there be a matchup Phx would be looking for that might make them swing their game one way or the other?
