RECAP: Warriors 111, Trail Blazers 106 - Futures Collide

It's odd that going into a game against a team with a future as bright as Portland's, I still found myself thinking that this thing can swing either way. I certainly wasn't alone. Judging by the pre-game comments made in the Worst Open Thread I've ever put up, many of us walked into the Arena or flipped on our tubes tonight with the hopes that the Warriors can continue our reign of terror on Portland.

Sure, we had taken the previous 6 meetings with them in the Arena. But in all of our victories last year, we all knew that we were really going up against a fraction of the true beast. With Oden out all year, it was tough to envision how powerful Portland would really be with all their components in place.

Well tonight we saw the real Blazers. And even though Joel "Can I buy a vowel" Przybilla got the start at center, we all sat witness to the incredible power of Oden. I'm not kidding man, this guy is a BEAST. And when you have a player like Roy feeding him down low, you have a dangerous combination. You have years to come of "Roy to Oden" which offer limitless possibilities to build around. You have the Blazers of the future. Who can stop a team like this?

You can tell by those cold steel eyes that he can only be thinking one thing. "Off the rafters, off Grimaces head, over the Arches... Nothing but net."

Apparently the Warriors of the future can. The Blazers aren't the only team discovering themselves in the Western Conference. There's potential a'brewin' in the Roaracle.

Wrote a recap about it. Like to hear it? Here goes.

OPEN THREAD: Warriors vs Trailblazers - Open Thread Cop Out.

 Wile_e__coyote_medium
Work. Not stopping. Must... get... up... open thread.

Warriors: 4-6

Trailblazers: 6-4

Tip-Off: 7:30pm

TV: CSN, CSNHD

Radio: KNBR

Wow. What a cop-out. Worst Open Thread ever. Alas, work continues to rain down on me and the game is merely 2 hours away. And dammit we need a place to DISCUSS.

DISCUSS the performance we expect from Morrow tonight. Fluke?!

DISCUSS our possibilities of riding our momentum in the house that We Believe built.

DISCUSS how ugly Greg Oden is. (Seriously though... I'm no prize, but that guy? Dayam.)

DISCUSS how crappy this Open Thread is.

DISCUSS.

Predictions:

I'm still here when the game ends. God bless DVR.

GO WARRIORS!!!!

Poll
(I'd like to dedicate this poll to warriorsscore110 and the extra notch I'm gaining by adding it. I wonder if I add more answer options I'll get an extra extra notch? Let's find out.) The Warriors will:

RECAP: Warriors 111, Nuggets 101 - Feel the Change.

YES!

Now That was some good old fashioned exciting Warriors brand basketball! Aside from an extremely dismal start, tonight the Dubs looked like the run and gun, energetic club that so many people have fallen in love with in recent years.

Boxscore | Open Thread (1000+ Comments. WOW!!!)

Nene_medium

"Hey Coach! COACH! I'm at the rim. What do I do again if they're in the way of the basket?!"

The most exciting part of it all? While the end result of this brand of Warriors basketball was the same, the components were totally different. Tonight we were treated to the Brandan Wright that we all knew lay dormant as he curled up in Nellie's doghouse. We saw the energy of the Biedrins we all knew was hiding in the shadows behind his youth and inexperience. We saw our Captain play the role that he was meant to play; calm and collect with excellent defense and well rounded scoring.

We saw the Quiet Storm knock down key jumpers. We saw Kabuki flex his ridiculously huge offensive and defensive muscles. We saw Belinelli score a jumper!!

I've died and gone to Warriors heaven. Make the JUMP for a description of what it's like.

Game #5: Warriors vs. Nuggets

Love watching you play man. But I'm glad it's not tonight!

Warriors (W-L): 1-3
Nuggets (W-L): 1-2
Tip-Off: 7:30 PST
TV: ESPN, ESPNHD
Radio: KNBR
Vegas Odds (Yahoo): Golden State by 3

Heeeeeeeey. Time to put that messy business in Memphis behind us! It's time to look to the future! It's time to look to CHANGE!!!

Hey, it worked for Obama; why not us?!

Well, tonight we're definitely seeing some change in the face of our opponents. With A.I. shipped off to Detroit, we'll be facing a very different team than the one that used to pummel us in recent years.

Now I'm not saying the pummeling is going to stop; it just might happen for entirely different reasons now.

Be sure to check out SBN site Pickaxe and Roll for coverage of the game from the Nuggs perspective.

Q/A - AtTheHive.com

Can you feel it? Opening Night is right around the corner.

As we sit on the eve of the 2008/2009 season, in our hands we hold hope and optimism. Anything can happen. We are a completely different team than we were one year ago today. And while there has been much debate about whther we're worse off or better, now is the time for the theories to end.

Now is the time for facts. Who is going to step up at the point? How will Maggette fare? What type of light beer will Nellie favor this season? What's going to happen when we take that Arena floor tomorrow?

 Hive-large_medium

Well, thanks to our friends at the excellent Hornets blog www.atthehive.com, we've been able to get a little bit of insight into our extremely challenging opponents for our Season Opener tomorrow. Hit the jump for their overall take on the Hornets of 08/09 to get a better idea or the beast we're facing tomorrow night!

Warriors vs Lietuvos Rytas -

Lietuvos Rytas.

We knew this day would come. All we could do up until now was practice as hard as we could in order to be the most elite basketball machine we could be. But was it enough?! Are we the Warriors that we need to be to beat our most feared team of all teams that happen to come from Vilnus, Lithuania and has bred Basketball powerhouses such as Sarunas Jasikevicius, Sarunas Marciulionis, Robertas Jacvtokas and (dare I say it?!) SIMAS JASAITIS?!!!

That’s right. Don’t step to Simas lest ye be served.

The Need for Lead

Well here we are. Playoff baseball has begun which means only one thing. October.

As the A's pack up their gear and kiss McAfee goodbye, next door the Oracle stirs... In 28 days, Warriors Nation will flock to the Arena to watch the Warriors once again overcome adversity. Unlike recent years however, this year we face a new challenge. The absence of a proven point guard.

Bajaj-087_medium

Nice wheels Monta.

Sure, this news is anything but recent. But with Monta busy getting his M class license and the start of the season (and the coming of
GSoM Night V I might add!) approaching quickly, the question lingers:

"Who is the point guard that is going to lead us through our undefeated November?!"

Janny Hu of the SF Chronicle addressed this issue on Monday on SFGate.com.

Incumbent C.J. Watson is entering his first full season in the NBA. Newcomer Marcus Williams has little experience in the Warriors' fast-paced offense. Rookie DeMarcus Nelson would be happy simply to make the roster.

Now, while KBLX has has some burn time last year, I can't exactly recall if he ever started a game. So while I couldn't really throw a stone at C.J (mainly for lack of playing time), I also can't make the argument that he's going to be the second coming of Baron. So I figured I would consult the best Warriors resource I know.

You guys.

OPEN THREAD: Day 38 of the 2k8 NBA Playoffs

I’ll give this Celtics and Pistons series one thing. After all of the games we’ve seen this postseason, these two are at least managing to put together an unpredictable series. With each of the teams now sitting on one home win and one road win, they’ve shown all of us that home floor may not play (as much of) a factor in this showdown.

Guess they’ll just have to rely on their will to win. Should be fun to watch!

OPEN THREAD: Day 31 of the 2k8 NBA Playoffs

This is it. Down to four teams for the battle for NBA Glory.

Trophy_medium

Despite the twists and turns that occurred within many of the Playoff series in ’08, the East has panned out… well, right about on the nail. Detroit, facing it’s 6th straight Eastern Conference Championship series versus the mighty Boston Celtics who, amazingly enough, have squeaked by both the first and second round to earn their place in this series.

Seed One versus Seed Two. Whoda thunk it?!

The good news? There’s still a very good shot at a Lakers/Celtics Championship series. That’s old school baby. Old school. JUMP!!!
