Suns not speaking the same language - defense

Another close game. Another heartbreaking defensive lapse.

In the spirit of getting better assigning blame let's break this one down.

First though, listen to Terry Porter after today's practice talk about the failure to communicate.

Remember also what Nash said after the game last night about someone calling an audible right before the ball came in. I still assume that was Richardson.

Here's the way they lined up initially.

The Suns went with 3 guards (Nash, Barbosa and JRich) along with Hill and Amare. One has to assume a play to be guarding against is something going to the rim for a tip in or alley oop. That's why Hill is out of the stack a bit protecting the hoop.

It does say a lot about how Amare is viewed that as the most athletic big on the team (and on the court or pretty much anywhere) he's left guarding the ball. Think about that. Would Duncan be on the ball? Wade? LeBron? At least Amare does a good job shading to protect an easy pass towards the hoop. Of course the Pacers had other plans.

Some question having LB or even Nash in the game at this point instead of Matt Barnes. That's an interesting point as well.

and the winner of the Suns tickets is....

It took some digital abuse but you people came through. At least ten of you did which is 90% of our regular readers (not really but sometimes the sarcasm just slips out without my knowing it).

The winner will receive tickets to the first ever (as in EVER anywhere EVER) Suns tweetup game which comes with all kinds of extra goodies which can be envied over here (Tickets are still available. I think.)

There were several very good entries and I thought about putting it to a vote but in the end decided that democracy, like blogging is overrated. So I went old school dictator on this one knowing that only the winner will be sitting next to me next week while the losers will remain stowed safely away in their mothers' basements.

and the winner is....

To Nash & Shaq: Embrace your inner role player. With pride and humility accept Black Jesus as your Savior. Make him who he needs to be.

This entry captured the essance of the tweet while remaining 100% on topic. The final push over the top was that the answer agrees completely with my views of what the Suns need to do to win.

I said it before the season started and still think that this team will go as far as Amare can take them. Kind of scary isn't it?

other notable responses were....

Post game audio - Suns confusion reigns

Here's the full audio from Nash, Amare, Grant, Pony Boy and a few Pacers including Granger to close it out. Again.

Two things stand out in listening to this:

1) Nash talked about confusion before the ball came in. Someone (my guess after watching the replay 12 times is JRich) called an audible and confused the Suns defense. Not good. Porter had established a plan that someone messed up.

2) While Nash and Grant talk about fixing the problem and acknowledging a Suns screw up, Amare talks about Granger hitting a contested (huh?) three and says "happy birthday".

Granger deserves tons of credit for the shot but you have to admit your mistakes if you are going to improve. Even Granger sounded shocked to be that open.

You people suck. Hard!

Until midnight people. Today. AZ Time. DO IT! DO IT NOW!

Before Christmas I tried to give away two tickets to a Suns game which came included and packaged with FREE T-SHIRTS.

All you people had to do was a simple lousy 140 character "essay" about the Suns.

That's 140 CHARACTERS. Not Words. Not Pages. Not sentences. 140 CHARACTERS.

You people blew it. No one. Not one single one of you could get off your collective lazy asses and type 140 characters. I write 140 characters before you sorry sacks of cow dung have crawled out of your momma's warm bed in the morning and put on your McUniform!

You make me want to PUKE! (btw - this youtube vid proves once again why the Internets aren't going away)

But it is a New Year and you get another chance. So bring it people!

You can do it. Put U back into it!

Oops - Shaun is back on the market

I wonder if the Grizz even bought him a juice box?

Perhaps someone smarter then me can explain why the Heat gave cash and Shaun to the Grizz in return for a conditional 2012 2nd round pick.....

Who else should be in the dunk contest?

Tom Ziller from AOL Fan House (among other places) gathers input from around the interwebs on who else might should be in the dunk contest.

Hint: Be sure to read my thoughts on JRich being included.

Courtney Sims / Iowa Energy watch

Sims had another double double (21 and 13) in the Energy's loss to the Dakota Frozen Balls Wizards. It won't be long before this guy gets a call up.

This is only the 3rd loss for the Energy who leads the NBA DL.
