Much like last year, things are a little mixed up in this first week of the season. A glimpse at the standings would find the Charlotte Bobcats at the top of the Southeast Division, and the Elton Brand-less Clippers leading the way in the Pacific. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls--many people's favorite to emerge out of the East--are still waiting for their first win. The Suns are sitting behind the Clippers and Lakers in the Pacific, and the power rankers at ESPN, SI.com, and NBA.com are not impressed. Tonight's game between the Suns and the Bobcats could be a step toward restoring the status quo if history holds true--the Bobcats have never beaten the Suns.

The Bobcats have an upgraded starting lineup this season with Jason Richardson now manning the shooting guard spot, but their bench took a blow when both Adam Morrison and Sean May needed season-ending knee surgery. The Suns may be without Amare Stoudemire, who missed Sunday's game with stiffness in his recently-scoped right knee. Arizona Republic's Paul Coro reports that Amare is a game-time decision.

"Guest" recaps will continue with jasonsuns1 providing the rundown in the diaries after the game is over. I will be one of four adults trying to keep up with eight kids at a party tonight, but might be able to catch the first quarter or so of the game before we go. If that happens, I'll do some commentary in the comments to this post.

If Amare plays tonight, Suns fans will be hoping to see more of this:
