Suns to rest "big three" until playoffs

Editor's Note: I thought this was important enough to move to the front page.

Looks like the Suns have elected to rest Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion for the remainder of the regular season.

Fans who have been clamouring for Suns Coach Mike D'Antoni to rest his starters, and give the bench more playing time may finally get their wish. In light of his team's improved play when confronted with a challenge, D'Antoni has decided to remove All-Stars Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, and Amare Stoudemire from duty for the remainder of the season. "We just feel like this is what's best for the team", said Mike D'Antoni, who was impressed by the second unit who erased a 4th quarter 20-point deficit in a recent game against the Warriors and nearly won the game. "This will give us time to get those guys [the second unit] acclimated to playing together, in case we get hit with an injury during the playoffs. The bloggers and message boards have been after us to do this all season, and I just thought it was time I finally listened to them. This will also allow us to enter the playoffs fresh and rested for a change, and the challenge of having to beat San Antonio on the road in the second round will give our guys the type of underdog situation in which they have thrived for the past three seasons." Asked if he was concerned about the starters being out of sync when they returned, D'Antoni replied, "That's always a bit of concern, of course, but one we're willing to risk for the sake of keeping everyone healthy, and getting the bench some playing time". D'Antoni also noted that he wasn't ruling out resting other starters, such as Raja Bell and his aching knees or Boris Diaw and his continued inconsistency. "Don't be surprised if by the 82nd game of the season, you see a starting lineup of Pat Burke, Eric Piatkowski, Jumaine Jones, Jalen Rose, and Marcus Banks, with Sean Marks as the 6th man off the bench."

Wow...  When I said I wanted to see more of that second unit we played against the Warriors, that's not really what I had in mind.
