The Arizona Republic is announcing that Steve Kerr will be the Phoenix Suns' new General Manager starting next week. This is an interesting turn of events - at least to me. I think it is a good move by the Suns and by Mike D'Antoni. It is a good admission by D'Antoni that he can't do everything and that he wants to stay on the coaching side.
I don't see a downside to this at all. In my mind, it can only bring good things for the Suns. It brings in another basketball mind to help make the tough personnel decisions, it allows everyone to have another person in the discussion to bring out possible pros and cons of each player move and it allows Mike D'Antoni to focus on things just as a coach. That means he won't get burned out as much.
According to the Arizona Republic, the announcement won't be made until next week because of the Eastern Conference finals going on.
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a reason I shouldn't be super excited about this move?
