Interview with Coach Nick Nurse of the Iowa Energy

I had a chance today to catch up with  Iowa Energy Head Coach Nick Nurse.

  • Coach Nurse talked about his great relationship with the Suns. Coach Nurse was with the Suns staff in Vegas Summer League and in Tucson this fall where he got to know a bit about Coach Porter's system so he could try and mimic some of the things the Suns are doing in case guys get sent down or called up

  • We discussed the Energy's roster which has surprised the D league by jumping out to an 8-1 record
  • The Energy's center Courtney Sims is putting up fantastic numbers and may not be long for the D-league
  • Sims is a back to the basket big man that can shoot from range and is developing his face up game. He's averaging over 13 rebounds and 3 blocks per game as well. Coach Nurse see's him eventually as a power forward in a few years
  • This is pure speculation on my part but I wonder if the Suns might bring up Sims and sign him to a 10 day contract (after the Jan 10th deadline) and send Lopez to Iowa to work on his game
  • We discussed the possibility that Goran Dragic might be sent to Iowa so he can work on his confidence
  • Coach Nurse talked about his appreciation for Alando's attitude and willingness to fit in and help the team win
  • We discuss some reasons why Tucker only got off three shots in his game last night against the Bakersfield Jam
  • Coach felt that Alando should have a solid NBA future especially if he can knock down the corner three and defend two guards at the NBA level
