The Mercury pulled this one out with another late run giving them a 95-84 win and moving the team to 20-9, just a half game back of the Indian Fever (20-8). The Fever lost for the second time this season to the Monarchs who hold the worst record in the league. Go figure.
More on this game tomorrow, but I was very impressed with the balance on the offensive end. The Mercury had 5 players in double figures and 2 more with 9 point and 1 more with 7. They put up 95 points in a game where they were only 4-16 (25%) from behind the arc. Cappie had an off night shooting and over all the ball didn't seem to want to fly readily through the net. And yet they finish with 95 points. Impressive.
On the defensive end, the Merc once again came out slow and gave up a lot of points in the paint. The Sun shot 55% in the first period and score 35 points but the Mercury clamped down and held the Sun to 23% in the 2nd period and 35% for the night.
The combination of Smith, Ohdle, Willingham and Bonner did a much better job against the Connecticut front line and the Mercury even had a slight edge (43-41) on the glass.
In honor of Dustin aka Wattdogg joining me courtside for tonight's matchup between the 19-9 Phoenix Mercury and the 14-14 Connecticut Sun we're going to run a live game thread.
This game is on NBATV so feel free to...you know, watch it.
I am going to turn the lap top over to Dustin since I really can't watch and type at the same time. Sometime to do with being over 30 35..lets just say older than Grant Hill.
