Coaches Notes:

  • Coach Hollins thinks his team has improved in all areas of the game including defensively. He talked about his team playing together more and trusting each other as a key to their improvement
  • He's not worried about his lack of 3-point shooting since they are scoring inside and getting to the line and averaging 104 ppg
  • Against the Suns he thinks the number of weapons (shooters) is more of a problem than the pick and roll from Nash and Amare
  • Gentry said the Grizzlies are a totally different team than when they were here last. He complemented Lionel Hollins several times for the way he handled the Iverson situation and let his team know that the rules applied to everyone. As a result Gentry thinks the Grizz are playing hard for him
  • Suns will start Amare on Zebo and Frye on Gasol. Amare needs to play without fouling. That's still an area of concern
  • Gentry said the Suns need to have good hard practices and can't afford to relax on that. The team needs to keep paying attention to detail especially on the defensive rotations
  • Gentry doesn't like using the zone too much b/c of the impact it has on rebounding (hard to rebound out of the zone) but that it might make sense at times against the Grizzlies
  • Suns will bring help from the wings on the glass but still look to leak out with guys like Hill, Richardson and Barbosa
  • Asked to comment on the Gilbert Arenas gun situation, Gentry said he's not seen anything like that since the ABA days. He said nothing good can come out of it.
  • Gentry said that they have to play well to beat the Grizzlies. They won't beat themselves
