NBA Playoff Nightcap: May 9th Edition

The Nightcap was gone yesterday and you probably didn't even miss it.  That makes you a real jerk.  I think you owe me an apology.  I will also accept cash or recs.  Depending on how generous you are feeling.

Since we've made Goran Dragic the prime theme of the site for the past 24 hours, has anyone acknowledged the fact that they've recently added an accent above the "C" in his Dragic's last name?  My girlfriend noticed this the other day and after a bit of research it appears it was added before Game 1 of the Blazers series.  Does anyone remember this?  Did I miss when people mentioned this?  I bet Seth knew.  Wil probably didn't.  And Trev?  Well who knows with that loose cannon.

Saturday May 8th Playoff Results:

Orlando Magic 105 Atlanta Hawks 75 (Recap)The Hawks are a joke.  I know Orlando is a helluva team and more than capable of beating a team senseless - but the Atlanta effort in the first three games of this series has been downright pathetic.  The Magic dominated this game from wire to wire and won by 30 - making the overall score in this series 331-244.  For the math challenged that means the Hawks have been outscored by 87 points in this series.  Orlando was led by 22 from Rashard Lewis and a 21/16 performance from Dwight Howard while Atlanta got 22 from Jamal Crawford off the bench and not much else.  Hawks star Joe Johnson shot just 3/15 in the game to continue his nightmare postseason.  Atlanta was booed late in the game and in post-game interview Johnson had this to say:

We could care less if [fans] showed up."

Nice JJ.  Nice.  Over his last 6 postseason games Johnson is averaging just 13.3 points per game on 31% shooting.  There is almost no doubt in my mind that Orlando will finish off the lame-duck Hawks in Game 4.  Me thinks Atlanta is in for a rough summer.

Los Angeles Lakers 111 Utah Jazz 110 (Recap): Utah got Andrei Kirilenko back from his calf injury and Utah led by as many as 12 in the second quarter - but they still lost and they are now sitting on the verge of a sweep.  The Jazz actually held a 3 point lead with 1:06 remaining in the game but a pair of threes by Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher turned that lead into a quick deficit that Utah could not recover from.  Bryant led the charge for LAL with 35 (on 13/24 shooting) and the Lakers also got 20 each from Ron Artest and Derek Fisher. For as played up as the Lakers rebounding advantages have been in this series they actually lost the rebounding battle to the Jazz in this game.  Deron Williams led Utah with 28 points but missed a game winning attempt (when Utah was down just 1) in the possession following a Laker turnover that gave Utah a golden opportunity to win the game.  Los Angeles will get their opportunity to sweep the Jazz on Monday night.

Conference Semifinals Series Standings:

(1) Lakers v. (5) Jazz: 3-0 Lakers

(3) Suns v. (7) Spurs:  3-0 Suns

(1) Cavaliers v. (4) Celtics:  2-1 Cavaliers

(2) Magic v. (3) Hawks: 3-0 Magic

Sunday May 9th Playoff Game:

Game 4 - Cavaliers @ Celtics:This is the only second round series that isn't currently sitting at 3 games to none.  Thus as of right now this is the absolute best we've got.  So just watch and appreciate.  Also you should know....elbow elbow elbow elbow elbow.

Game 4 - Suns @ Spurs: Wouldn't it just be the final indignity in the Suns-Spurs "rivalry" if they were the first team in 89 tries to rally from a 0-3 hole?  My advice to the Suns?  Do this.
