OJ Mayo to Visit Suns Friday

Enjoy your stay, OJ.
Enjoy your stay, OJ.

Since the beginning of the July Moratorium 12 days ago, there hasn't been much activity out of OJ Mayo's camp. Mayo became an unrestricted free agent this summer when the Grizzlies declined to extend him a qualifying offer. As many free agents have expeditiously agreed to new deals, Mayo has patiently bided his time.

Has Mayo been waiting on something specific to happen? Some domino to fall that sets a chain of events into action that pertains to him expressly? Is it possible that the free agency fate of Eric Gordon is that domino?

It appears that the Suns aren't waiting for the Hornets' decision to begin cultivating this relationship.

Arizona Sports 620 KTAR is reporting that OJ Mayo is scheduled for a visit tomorrow, Friday the 13th. Craig Grialou also refers to the visit in his story Suns' Plan B if Hornets Match Offer Sheet on ArizonaSports.com.

Judging from the previous success this summer at securing agreements from visiting players, does this suggest that it is likely that Mayo will become the Suns' new starting shooting guard if/when the Hornets match the offer sheet on Gordon?

The bad mojo of Friday the 13th meets the ingratiating, persuasive pitch of Lon Babby on a tepid 105 degree day in the desert. Possible thunderstorms are in the forecast, but what is the outlook for tomorrow's meeting?

***UPDATE***

Mayo has arrived circa 9:00 AM local Phoenix time.
