Suns Select Alex Len with the No. 5 Pick in the 2013 NBA Draft

The wait is over. Welcome Maryland center Alex Len to Planet Orange.

Draft Express had Alex Len as No. 1 on their big board, and he was being conidered for the top overall pick just over half an hour ago. Yet here he is at No. 5 and the Sun scooped him up.

ALEX LEN

Alex Len is a rare true 7-footer who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He has the ability to finish in the paint as well as step out and hit a 15-foot jump shot. He can also affect the game defensively with his size, length and athleticism.

I really like Alex Len. He was No. 5 on my board. However, Nerlens Noel an Ben McLemore were No. 1 and No. 2 on my board so this choice is, um, interesting. Apparently the rumors of the Suns red-flagging Nerlens Noel's knee were a bit more than smoke. And McLemore is talented, but again true 7-footers are bit harder to come by than shooting guards who can shoot.

However, Len missed the combine and workouts due to a stress fracture in his ankle, an stress fractures can often spell doom for men as large as Len. The Suns must not see it is a big issue though.

The other thing about this selection is that it means the Suns really can move Marcin Gortat. I don't think we're quite finished with this lottery...
