This will mark the 3rd time this season that Goran Dragic has been named Suns player of the week. And although Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas both put up great performances as well, Dragic's extraordinary efficiency this past week must be acknowledged.
Dragic shot at least 50 percent from the field in every game this week, a major accomplishment for a guard. Against the Minnesota Timberwolves he led the team with 25 points on 11-16 shooting. And overall, he shot a staggering 64 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range, to go along with averages of 19 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
At this point it's clear that Dragic has not regressed. That's not something I feel I have to convince Bright Side readers of, but perhaps the rest of the league should take a hint. February 2014 Dragic may be a thing of the past, at least so long as he remains primarily an off-ball guard with a slightly lower usage rate. But at this point Dragic has established himself as one of the most efficient guards the league has to offer, and he has easily played as well recently as he did last year when he shared the court with Bledsoe.
Ever since Dragic missed two games in mid-December with a lower back strain, he has come back and averaged 18.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game on a 53/36/74 shooting line.
According to NBA.com/stats, there are 15 starting guards in the NBA who have taken at least 150 field-goal attempts in the restricted area. Dragic leads that group with a 71.8 percent shooting clip. Who comes in second place after him?
Damian Lillard, all the way down at 62.8 percent. Dragic has made 30 more shots in the restricted area than Lillard on only 19 more attempts. By the way, Bledsoe is also one of those 15 players (shooting 60.4 percent).
Enjoy the video of Dragic's highlights. The thing I especially like about this one is that it doesn't include a single three. Just watch him drive to the rim.
As always, vote for your own player of the week. To help you out, here are some key performers.
Dragic averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 turnovers per game on 64/39 shooting.
Bledsoe averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 3.8 turnovers per game on 48/36 shooting.
Thomas averaged 16.3 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 3.0 turnovers per game on 49/50 shooting.
Alex Len averaged 8 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in only 24 minutes per game on 63 percent shooting.
