The NBA announced this afternoon that Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Thomas was selected to participate in the 2015 Taco Bell Skills Challenge on All-Star weekend.
According to the press release from the Suns, Isaiah will participate in this event on Saturday, February 14th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. A total of eight players will compete in an obstacle course testing the shooting, dribbling, passing, and agility of each participant.
Thomas will be matched up against Washington Wizards guard John Wall in the first round of the competition, with the winner of that round moving on to play the winner of Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams and Atlanta Hawks guard Jeff Teague.
Other players on the opposite side of the bracket that Isaiah could face if he makes it to the third and final round include Utah Jazz guard Trey Burke, Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Knight, Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler, and Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry.
Fun fact, two of the four TNT analysts picked Isaiah Thomas to win this competition on tonight's NBA Tip-Off show...with both Kenny Smith and Chris Webber picking Thomas. Shaquille O'Neal also picked Isaiah at first but then changed his pick to Kyle Lowry. Ernie Johnson picked Brandon Knight.
With this selection, Thomas will be the fourth Suns player to compete in the Skills Challenge on All-Star weekend, with previous contestents being Stephon Marbury in 2003, Steve Nash in 2005, 2006, 2010, and Goran Dragic last year in 2014.
However, Steve Nash is the only Suns player to win the event so far, earning a victory in both 2005 and 2010.
Hopefully, Isaiah can be the second.
