The Phoenix Suns began the game with Archie Goodwin as the starting point guard, Devin Booker at the two, P.J. Tucker at small forward, Alex Len at the four, and Tyson Chandler as the starting center. Markieff Morris is still out with a shoulder injury, and Brandon Knight was sidelined with an injured groin.
The Atlanta Hawks began the game with Jeff Teague at the point, Kyle Korver at the two, Kent Bazemore at the three, Al Horford at the power forward position, and Tiago Splitter at center. Paul Millsap is not playing tonight due to the passing of his grandfather.
First Quarter
The Suns start the game with an error on the tip-ball...not joking
Alex Len with a nice 15 foot jumper...Hopefully that gets his shooting confidence going early.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Devin Booker missed his first two three-point attempts...I don't expect that to continue.
PJ Tucker hits his though, and the Suns are up 9-6 early...Hey, it's something.
Archie Goodwin hits a three, then Suns D leads to a quick score by Booker. PHX up 14-6. Timeout Hawks.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Say what you will...But Suns D has been very good so far.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Ok, not so fast...
Well...the D was good before a missed rebound and a turnover both led to quick baskets. Timeout Suns...Still up 14-11
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Archie just tried to make the highlight reel on an aggressive drive and attempted dunk. Gets fouled and goes to the line. 2/2.
Booker makes his first three of the game...hopefully more of that to come.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Teletovic gets in on the action as well. Suns back up three after falling behind briefly.
And then...
B33K3R with another three-point make off of Chandler's offensive rebound to end the first quarter. Suns up 29-23.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Second Quarter
Lorenzo Brown is the first player on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Got the foul too, but missed the free-throw.
Teletovic hits his second three of the game as well. Suns on a 14-5 run
TJ Warren scores on a fast break off a dish from Brown. The NC State connection.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Warren with another bucket. Timeout Hawks. Suns up 41-33
In video promo, Devin Booker says he hopes to play the rest of his career in PHX. Please #Suns, DON’T DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THAT SENTIMENT
— Gerald Bourguet (@GeraldBourguet) January 24, 2016
Tyson Chandler has been working the boards already...Has 13 now with three minutes left in the first half.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Suns not shooting well...currently only 37%, but they are definitely hustling tonight. Will it be enough?
The Phoenix Twin Towers, Alex Len and Tyson Chandler, have combined for 11 points & 20 rebounds (17 for Chandler) in the first half. Not bad
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
PHX 48, ATL 39 at half. Booker 10, Goodwin 9 pts. Chandler 17 reb. FG%: PHX 34 (missed last 13 attempts), ATL 40 #SunsVsHawks
— Craig Grialou (@CraigAZSports) January 24, 2016
Third Quarter
P.J. Tucker throws a nice lob to Alex Len who finishes with a dunk to start the quarter.
Booker tried to get into the "Throw a lob to Len" action, but a Bazemore foul ruined it.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Suns are still maintaining their lead, so far, but their 35% shooting isn't going to make it easy for them to continue.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Even the Golden Boy himself is struggling to find the bottom of the net...
Booker now shooting only 4/15 from the field, including 2/7 from three. I guess he isn't immune to an off-night either.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
But others, like Archie and Chandler, are still finding a way to make a positive impact.
Archie Goodwin so far is 8-8 from the FT line.
— Suns Nation (@SunsNation_NBA) January 24, 2016
Tyson just pulled down his 20th rebound...in the third quarter.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
The Suns poor offense has been saved by good free throw shooting, rebounding and good defense for the most part. They can certainly win this game if they keep it up, even shooting below 40%.
End of 3Q: PHX 74, ATL 64. Goodwin: 15 Pts, 8-8 FTs Chandler: 11 Pts, 21 Reb PHX: 20-25 FTs; ATL: 6-7 FTs #SunsVsHawks
— Gerald Bourguet (@GeraldBourguet) January 24, 2016
Fourth Quarter
The Suns start off on defense...
PJ Tucker with an outstanding block...Refs robbed him of it.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Suns only up six points now...getting concerning.
Korver three and the Hawks are down just four
— Peachtree Hoops (@peachtreehoops) January 24, 2016
and then...
Korver hits back-to-backs 3s and Hawks open quarter w/9 straight pts. Hornacek timeout. 74-73 PHX w/9:59 4Q #SunsVsHawks
— Craig Grialou (@CraigAZSports) January 24, 2016
Korver's basket was changed to a three...all tied up 74-74.
Booker finally hits another three...Been an off-night for him, but the Suns need him to keep shooting.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
The Suns bigs continue to play well together.
.@alexlen joining @tysonchandler on the double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. #SunsVsHawks
— #WeArePHX (@Suns) January 24, 2016
Archie with a VICIOUS dunk!
Archie!!!! https://t.co/tQrOkKRKby
— Michael Gallagher (@MikeSGallagher) January 24, 2016
Archie may have re-ignited the Suns' spirit here in the fourth quarter. Suns back up 83-77 with six minutes left. Timeout Hawks.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Booker hits a two...I'll take it.
Chandler/Len so far tonight: 25 points 35 rebounds 8 assists 2 blocks
— Michael Dunlap (@DunlapSports) January 24, 2016
Suns still up 89-85 with just under three minutes left to play. Can they grind out the win?
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Archie now has 21 after scoring 20 points in his last game.
Suns just had an incredible back and forth series that showed grit, hustle, determination...and ended in a Hawks three.
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Goodwin with an aggressive move to the basket and a putback by Chandler gives the Suns the lead with 24 seconds remaining.
But the Hawks score on their next possession, and get the foul. Bazemore misses. All tied up 95-95. Suns get final possession with 20 seconds left.
and...
OMG!!! ARCHIE!!!!
— Sean Sullivan (@SeanSullivanNBA) January 24, 2016
Archie with the dagger three to end the game...Really!
Game Over; Suns WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
