Okay it was a loss. A bad loss. And Devin Booker playing defense like a 19-year old did not help at all. Booker played 41 minutes in an awful loss to the Sacramento Kings, who put up 142 points in regulation (That's a point total the Suns franchise has not allowed in regulation in more than 25 years).
But yeah, we're looking for the Bright Side. So let's look at Devin's smooth offensive game. He fits well (offensively) next to T.J. Warren as they prefer different spots on the floor in the half court and both like to sprint out on fast breaks.
The Suns are starting the league's youngest wing tandem in Booker (19) and Warren (22). The highlights are bound to be interspersed with lowlights.
Booker continues to be one of the youngest NBA players ever to score with such regularity. When coach Hornacek says he plays like a veteran, you can believe that because you can see it with your own eyes.
Let's not gloss over his scoring and readiness to be an NBA starter. Only such stars as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Tracy McGrady and Dwight Howard scored 19+ points more than once at a younger age than Booker, who already has two such games on his resume with the rest of the season to go.
And even crazier, among players who've scored 19+ at age 19 or younger, Booker's 19 and 21 points were scored on only 10 and 11 field goal attempts. By comparison to his 19-and-under peers in history, that's quite low.
And he's just getting started.
