Less than two hours before the Phoenix Suns were scheduled to tip off against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Suns forward Alan Williams took to a Chesapeake Energy Arena hallway to watch history.
Friday afternoon Williams’ mother, Jeri Williams, was sworn in as the first Police Chief in Phoenix history.

The city says goodbye to retiring Police Chief Joe Yahner. Williams is a veteran of the Phoenix Police, and leaves the same position in Oxnard, California to lead the state’s largest department. Williams will now command a police force 4,000 employees covering 500 square miles.
It’s a big night for Big Sauce, let’s hope there’s more good things to come Friday night for the Williams family. The Suns and Thunder are scheduled to tip off from Oklahoma City at 5pm PT.
