GM Ryan McDonough and Coach Earl Watson Talk About Draft Night

Ryan McDonough came out spitting Steph Curry-level flames tonight. It was assumed all along that the Suns would focus on obtaining either Marquese Chriss or Dragan Bender with the fourth overall pick, but to snag both of the upstart big men was a coup that seemed too far-fetched to even dream.

McDonough spoke to conceiving a plan of sneaking back into the middle of the lottery to steal a falling Chriss as late as this morning, and it took awhile to find a team that would bite on the assets he had accumulated up to this point. Fortunately for McDonough, the Sacramento Kings are in existence for this very thing: To cash in an abundance of assets for gold while they go on to do something that the entire league immediately questions.

(Georgios Papagiannis at #13 anyone?)

The positive aura in the room and the synergy between Coach Watson and McDonough was palpable, and it is apparent that good things are beginning to take shape in Phoenix. It feels like something is being built for once -- not rushed.

It is better to be lucky than good, and the initial feeling around the Suns' facility is that they were both tonight.
