Vegas predicts Derrick Jones Jr.’s finish in Slam Dunk Contest

The Phoenix Suns might win something.

The Phoenix Suns will be well represented at NBA All-Star Weekend. Bet on it. Get it? It’s a gambling reference. Keep up.

Saturday night we will all have one thing on our mind. Hopefully this season’s installment of the NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest is as satisfying as 2016’s.

Phoenix fans will have some added interest in Saturday’s event at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Suns’ high-flyer Derrick Jones Jr. will get 15 minutes of fame to match his 15 minutes of court time this season.

Las Vegas has released the odds on February 18th’s event. They think that Jones is the number one challenger to last year’s runner-up. Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic.

I am not going to advise you who to bet on because FanDuel no longer pays me to do that, and I’m unsure of the betting+blogging rules in these uncertain times. My guess though is that Aaron Gordon does something that’s cool, but not significantly cooler than last year, and the Phoenix Suns get to win a trophy courtesy of voter fatigue. It will be fun to win something.

The Slam Dunk Contest on February 18th will be the final event of All-Star Saturday night. The evening starts at 8p ET with the Taco Bell Skills Challenge followed by the JBL Three-Point Contest.
